No I think this crash should be blamed on China and its inhabitants of Wuhans disgusting eating habits, but nice try Stroller
Far too simplistic. I have never blamed the crash on Labour entirely. I blamed Labour for rash spending and selling (gold reserves for a pittance) so that we were weak when the crash came. Brown was a disaster. Over the last ten years, the Tories have reduced the deficit considerably. So although we still have high debt since 2018-10, in many ways we are in a better position to deal with the current catastrophe. We'll know in comparison with other countries of similar size that experience the virus.
Big of you not to blame a global phenomenon 'entirely' on the Labour government. I find it hard to see how the Tories' underfunding of the NHS over the last ten years will have left us in a better position to face this crisis.
Totally agree whilst like yourself we aren't suggesting that better funding wouldn't have solved this or anything close, however to deny the lack of funding over the last decade hasn't had an impact is just blind to what's happening in the UK.
Isn’t it Labour’s fault for not defending us well enough from the SARS virus that hospitalised a handful of people and killed no one? I’m sure someone has made this argument already.
It's not a question of being ""Big". You accused all the Tory supporters of doing so. I simply corrected that. The Tories got the deficit down from £103bn under Labour to a surplus of £19bn now https://www.ukpublicspending.co.uk/uk_national_deficit_analysis Without this, we'd be Corbyn's Venezuela
I’ve looked at it on the site you just posted. Pre-2008 we had sub-40% of GDP debt. A decade of Tory rule and austerity and it’s the best part of a trillion higher and over 80%. Deficit though.
Why pick pre 2008? Labour handed over in 2010 with a note saying there was no money left. That's what the coalition faced. Under Labour, the economy went over a cliff and you expect the Tories to clear the mess up in a couple of years? If there's a massive deficit under Labour, the first job for the Tories is to reduce it and that's not done overnight. Then you can tackle debt.
Because of the massive ****ing global crisis? Take 2010 as your benchmark then. 20 points fewer on debt and half a trillion quid than 2019. Which is arguably fine if you don’t force people into a decade of austerity. Begs the question of where the money has gone.
Don't you understand that it's the deficit that creates the debt? When the deficit is that high year on year, servicing loans with huge interest payments, then debt goes up. It's like a ****ing train. You can't stop it overnight. It has momentum. So debt still goes up year on year, as the deficit under the Tories comes down year on year.
Plane with 5 passengers on board, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, the Pope, Nicola Sturgeon and a ten year old school boy. The plane is about to crash and theres only 4 parachutes. Trump said I need one. I’ve to sort out the USA!’ Takes one and jumps The pope said ‘I need one, I've to sort out the Catholic Church.’ He takes one and jumps. Boris said ‘I’m the smartest man in England.’ He takes one and jumps. Nicola said to the ten year old "you can have the last parachute. I've lived my life, yours is only starting". The 10 year old said "Don’t worry, there are 2 parachutes left. The smartest man in England took my school bag"
Could be mistaken but wasn’t Stanley Johnson pro leave? If so showing he’s ripping the piss. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1584882890
