I've just consulted my own behavioural science sub-group and there was a strong concensus around starting earlier.
You never know, the EU may metamorphose back into something like the friendly, respectful trading block that some of us voted for at the time of the Common Market referendum
That's how I see it. There is also talk that Italy will pull the plug on them soon. Hopefully it can go back to the way it was and we can all be happy.
A nice thought. Given how unwieldy the EU is becoming, and will be more so when countries like Albania join, it surely the way to go given that the EU themselves state they don't want to create a superstate. Nearly 30 countries each with a veto will hinder decision making
I was always a remainer until it (EU) became bogged down. Plenty of good things about Europe and have always enjoyed visiting/working there. I hate the commission and those unelected muppets that have caused all the problems... And Brexit.
After the crash in 2008 their economy was wrecked so they offered passports 'for sale' to wealthy 'investors' for a minimum investment of €2 million, this gave the 'investor' an EU passport and automatic EU rights as well as their families. After 5 years they can withdraw their 'investment' with profits and keep their passport for life. Naturally, Russians have piled in but many other Eastern Block investors have taken advantage as well as Arab nations. The EU are finally trying to block this but other member countries are enjoying the investment opportunities these 'Cypriot' entrepreneurs are making especially in the poorer countries so it's not a done deal...
Interesting. In addition, I gather Cyprus is witholding its vote on the Belarus issue to gain leverage on the EU to impose sanctions on Turkey that is drilling in disputed waters in the Eastern Med. But other EU members don't want to sanction Turkey, a Nato member, that is also currently shielding them from the 3.6 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. With so many conflicting interests, the EU will slow to a crawl
Erdogan doing his usual willy-waving, he knows he can get away with murder while he has EU over a barrel. The whole region is so volatile at present, such a shame as I was considering retirement in Cyprus but too much going on to be a safe bet at present. Even the Red Arrows have moved away from their Winter practice facility as they are within attack range from Syria...
Jeez, no wonder the EU want to get Brexit behind them with these kinds of problems. With Erdogan close to Putin, it really is a tinderbox down there
Police officer killed in Croydon earlier this morning. Shot. Not sure of situation but this is very sad news
23 year old man shot copper in the police station. Must surely have smuggled in a handgun, so probably a villain, terrorist, gang member etc But does the fact that he then turned the gun on himself, suggest a domestic dispute?
If the police had been defunded then this sort of thing wouldn’t happen. (Yes this post was meant with a heavy heap of sarcasm)
An afternoon stuck at home in Paris, as I live in the 11th and there has been another attack here. Details unclear but at least one, possibly two people stabbed very close to the Charlie Hebdo offices. They are saying one attacker is still on the loose.
