Sheff Utd next three fixtures: Brighton H Norwich H Newcastle A 7-9pts out of those three and they'll leapfrog Chelsea into 4th. (Chelsea are playing Spurs, Man Utd, and Bompey in their next three) Plus Sheff Utd are still in the cup, away to Reading for a quarter final place. Fair play to Wilder. Their fans must be loving it.
Ides, you live in Spain. Shouldn’t you support a Spanish club instead? I know you do follow Spanish clubs, but Saints are your first team, and perhaps those Arsenal fans that so offend you in Hampshire have Saints (or whoever) as their second team too.
I went to see Athletic Baleares the other week. If they top.their división if Segundo B, they have to play-off against the other winners of Segundo B of which there are 4. So they are my adopted team. In La Liga it is Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, whose kit resembles Saints in 2010/11 minus the red sash.
But I admit to being that rarity in wanting all three to do well. It is great when the really big clubs United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are turned over. While Manchester City are very wealthy, do they have a nationwide following ? Anduntil Tottenham start winning trophies they are not in the same detestable League as those 4 in wanting them to get stuffed.
Definitely. It was brilliant the way Pompey beat Manchester United in the FA Cup qf, just as it was in 1976 with Saints in the final.
I personally find Spurs much more detestable than the rest. City's following nationwide is quickly growing too, can't see them ever catching up with the big two though.
There's a fair bit of luck in Sheffield United's current standing, it must be said. No doubt they're performing well, and their defense is very strong, but it's generally very difficult to keep edging one-goal wins over the long term. Quite similar to Burnley back in 2017-18, and hopefully as with Burnley they can keep it going through the end of the year.
This is amazing; Sheff Utd have only lost away from home twice all season: Man City and Liverpool. Their other five losses were all at home.
Yeah, they're legitimately very good defensively, particularly away...they don't just prevent goals, they've been quite successful at suppressing shot attempts. But they have the second-best points total when falling behind, and the third-best points/game when taking the lead*. And that makes them either the grittiest team of steely-eyed winners that the PL has seen, or it means they've gotten some favourable bounces in there somewhere. *Wolves are 1st and 2nd respectively in those categories, yet they're only in 9th because they have led fewer matches than any other team in the PL this season. Wolves are weird.
I never listen to Talksport, so had to google who Adrian Durham is. Pretty much a nobody. Apparently Sheffield United have used this to inspire themselves, and fair play to them for achieving what they have. I believe @fatletiss was bigging Chris Wilder up before they were promoted, so well done that man.
Sheff Utd have upset the big boys, so I imagine they'll make up for not being able to bully then on the pitch by buying their players. Sad, but true.
I highly doubt it, their team is made up of lower league journeymen mostly. They are just very very well drilled, can't see any of the big boys being too interested in most of their players (though I did see Fleck was linked with Arsenal in the Jan window). David McGoldrick seals move to Man United, that would be pretty great
