Youth cup date set.

Liverpool Football Club said:

Liverpool will face Swansea City in the FA Youth Cup 3rd round on Wednesday, December 7.

The tie, which has to be completed on the night, takes place at St Helens Sports Ground, Swansea, and kicks-off at 7pm. Cost of entry to the game is Â£5 for adults and Â£1 concessions which can be paid on the gate.

Supporters should also be aware that the reserves fixture at Wolves next week has been switched to Wednesday, November 30. The match at Telford United will kick-off at 7pm.

This replaces the original date of Tuesday, November 29.

Spearo & Seb star in Reds win...

Jay Spearing notched a brace and Sebastian Coates fired his first goal in a red shirt as Liverpool Reserves saw off high-flying Sunderland 5-1in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North on Tuesday afternoon.

The Uruguayan got the home side off to the perfect start when he stabbed home on two minutes before Spearing thundered in the second with a brilliant effort from distance.

The diminutive midfielder then added a third just prior to the interval as Rodolfo Borrell's charges bounced back from their NextGen defeat in Lisbon in style.

Ryan Noble struck a late penalty for the visitors after Coates was penalised for a foul, but it did little to dampen what was a fine overall display as substitute Nathan Eccleston had the final say with a sublime double in front of the watching Kenny Dalglish and Luis Suarez.

Ahead of the encounter the reserves had enjoyed a training session with the first-team and there were a quartet of Melwood-based stars involved who would go on to play the whole 90 minutes. Jon Flanagan, Danny Wilson, Spearing and Coates came in to add some invaluable experience to the hosts and the latter made an instant impact.

Suso found space down the right and whipped in a delicious cross that Coates was on hand to steer home from close range.

Sunderland may well have been stunned by Liverpool's attacking intent from the kick off but they responded immediately and Noble was unlucky to see his effort from a tight angle flash across the six yard box after rounding Martin Hansen in the Reds goal.

Jordan Cook then exchanged a one-two before scuffing a shot off target as the Black Cats illustrated just why they had come into the game level on points with the league leaders.

It had been a lightning start to the proceedings and Raheem Sterling should have made it two on 10 minutes but his low shot was easily beaten away by 'keeper Lewis King. Adam Morgan then saw a goalbound shot blocked as Liverpool poured forward, but just as it seemed like the chance had gone begging up stepped Spearing to make it two.

The midfielder picked up the loose ball and had time to set himself from 25 yards before arrowing a sensational drive into the bottom corner.

Less than quarter of an hour on the clock and the Reds were well in the ascendancy. Next, Morgan went close when he was thwarted by King while at the other end Noble brought the best out of Hansen with a snap shot.

Liverpool were full value for their two-goal cushion but it got even better on the stroke of half-time when Spearing netted his second of the match.

The No.20's first shot was parried by King and when Morgan's follow-up was blocked, Spearing reacted by racing into the area and coolly tucking into an empty net.

The visitors would have been shell-shocked by the interval scoreline and they came out for the second period with renewed vigour.

Roarie Deacon nodded a tame header into the grateful arms of Hansen while Craig Lynch should have done better when he dragged a low shot from close range into the path of Coates, who hacked to safety from inside his own six yard box.

On the hour mark Borrell opted to freshen it up, replacing Morgan with Eccleston, who had recently returned from a loan spell at Rochdale, and his first touch almost created a fourth goal of the afternoon.

The striker sent Sterling rampaging in on King but once again the young winger hesitated when clear and saw his shot easily stopped by the Sunderland custodian.

Such was Liverpool's dominance that right-back Flanagan twice got into advanced positions but despite his best efforts he could not get his name on the scoresheet.

With time ticking down Sunderland pushed forward and eventually got a consolation on 82 minutes when Coates brought down Lynch, giving Noble the chance to convert from the spot.

However, Liverpool had the final say when Eccleston turned well before firing home a superb fourth.

And the frontman showed great pace and awareness to net his second deep into injury-time when he raced through and clipped a delightful shot over the advancing 'keeper.

great idea this. if we are going to be a highly succesful team in the future our youth is fundemental.

the deifference between Man City and barcelona is:

Man City have great players from across the world

Barcelona have great players, a large number of which have played together since they were 15/16.....You cant buy that.......

Very happy at the moment with our youth but there is always room for improvement...........(As Lisbon showed us last week.)

key Youth players for us currently in my opinion are: Coady, Wisdom, Suso, Sterling, Morgan......There are others of course, but these are the ones who i think will have the biggest impact

Live football on Friday...

Liverpool Football Club said:

Liverpool U18s take on rivals Manchester United on Friday afternoon - and you can watch the whole game live on LFC TV and LFC TV Online. Mike Marsh's charges hope to do the double over United after beating them 2-1 at the Academy on October 14.

Kick-off at Carrington is at 1.30pm GMT and join Claire Rourke and Gary Gillespie for the best build-up at 1pm.

The U18s have been in impressive form so far this season and go into the game on the back of a superb 3-1 away win at Academy league leaders Manchester City.

'Duo set example for Academy kids'

Academy striker Adam Morgan believes Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson have set the blueprint for Liverpool youngsters hoping to make an impact at Melwood. The duo were thrust into first-team action in the run-in to the 2010-11 season and have remained part of Kenny Dalglish's squad ever since.

Morgan is delighted to see his two pals doing so well and hopes to follow in their footsteps in the not too distant future.

Morgan told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I'm an optimistic person so hopefully I can push on with the reserves and try and be around the first-team set-up.

"It'd be great to train with them a few more times per month. When you look at the example set by Flanno and Jack Robbo, you can see it can be done. They've done really well so hopefully that can be me in the future."

Morgan has been instrumental for both the U18s and reserves so far this season having already entered double figures in the goal charts.

He admits he is happy to turn out for whoever needs him and feels he is learning every day under the tutelage of Kirkby's coaching staff.

He continued: "I fit in with both the U18 and reserve teams to be fair. I get on with all of the lads. I'm just told from day to day which team I'll be training with and I'm happy with that. I've missed out on a few weight sessions as a result. I don't mind that but I know it's important that I get bigger and stronger. I need to keep working hard and I am happy to play for whichever Liverpool team needs me.

"I've learned a lot off both coaches. Mike Marsh has really helped me and I worked with him a lot when I was with the U16s.

"I really enjoy working with Rodolfo too because he has shown me parts of my game that I didn't think I had."

It would have to be a return trip to the Caribbean. We stayed at Buccament Bay in St Vincent at the end of last season. It was paradise and I'd love to go back again soon. Fingers crossed!

Last album downloaded?

It was Drake's new one. It's very good. I'm into everything really. I got a bit of stick on here a few weeks back for playing house music loud at 8.30am in the morning. What can I say - it helps me to wake up!

Last film watched?

Shooter with Mark Wahlberg. It's a good action film.

Favourite TV show?

Celebrity Juice or the Only Way is Essex. The people in that show don't half make me laugh. It's unreal what goes on in that show.

Worst dresser?

That'd be Joe Rafferty with his shocking Sambas. It's nice to have a different answer for this question because it's usually me who gets the nod! To be fair, I don't think my gear is that bad.

Worst taste in music?

Dave Moli. It's awful. Loads of reggae stuff.

Best moment in football so far?

We won a tournament in Italy about four years ago. We beat Juventus in the final and it was a great moment.

Worst or most embarrassing moment relating to football...

A few weeks ago when we played Man United at home. I set up their goal with a bad back pass that went straight to the lad who scored. It was a shocking moment but I'll learn from it. It'd be nice to put it right at the other end today!

Which three teammates would be the most useful to get trapped on a desert island with - and why?

Joe Rafferty, Lewis Hatch and Adam Morgan. They are all Scousers and the banter would be brilliant.

If you could take one of the lads to have their haircut, who would it be?

Yalany Baio or Tom King. It's one of those two.

Teammate who spends longest in the mirror?

Kris Peterson, Yalany Baio or Jack Dunn. They are the main ones. Actually, wait a minute, I'm forgetting Tom Walsh! He's definitely in there too!

Best ever player in your position?

There are a few. Zinedine Zidane, Steven Gerrard, Xavi and Iniesta. Incredible players. I watch DVDs of them playing and try to pick up bits that I can try to put into my game.

Best thing about playing for Liverpool FC?

I'm a big red and grew up as a fan. It doesn't get better than playing for your own team. Just walking in here every day is special.

The U18s face Man United away today. Is this right up there with Everton as the biggest game of the season?

Yes, it's definitely one of the biggest games. Manchester City have always had a strong youth set-up so last week's match was up there too. It was a great win and hopefully we can carry that performance into the game with Man United.

Dunn at the double in United win...

Jack Dunn struck a double as Liverpool U18s continued their superb away form with a 2-1 win at Manchester United on Friday afternoon. The highly-rated England U17 starlet got the Reds off to a flyer when he drilled home inside the first minute to net his fifth goal of the campaign.

United responded and Sam Byrne's neat finish soon after looked to have earned the hosts a share of the spoils in what proved to be an end-to-end encounter. However, deep into stoppage-time Liverpool swamped forward and substitute Nathan Quirk played in Dunn to seal the three points.

Mike Marsh's charges went into the clash on the back of a resounding win at Manchester City and they illustrated their desire to complete a memorable double-trip down the M62 when they went in front inside 20 seconds.

The hosts failed to clear a ball forward from the kick off allowing Adam Morgan to help it on towards Dunn. The attacking midfielder surged into the right-hand side of the area and crashed a low shot beyond ex-Reds stopper Liam Jacob to give Liverpool the perfect start.

The Red Devils were clearly shell-shocked and they were lucky not to be two down on five minutes. Marc Pelosi was left in acres of space on the far left of the area and after his drive was parried into the air by the 'keeper, Kristoffer Peterson somehow failed to convert the rebound from close range.

It would prove a costly miss too as Paul McGuinness's team pushed forward and levelled through Byrne on 11 minutes. The super-charged opening lit the touch paper for a keenly contested affair and it was the visitors who created the better chances.

Morgan had a shot cleared off the line on the half hour mark and Pelosi saw a blockbuster arrow just over as the Reds looked to regain the lead.

The No.9 has been in fine form in front of goal for both the U18s and reserves this season but was left shaking his head in frustration after missing good chances either side of the interval.

United had rarely threatened but almost stole in front on the hour when Mats Daehli turned well inside the box and curled a smart effort just beyond the far post.

Liverpool responded and a stunning counter attack saw left-back Brad Smith surge through on goal. The Australian-born youngster unselfishly laid the ball across for Morgan who placed his shot wide of the far post.

At the other end, the home team came close again when Adnan Januzaj arced a free-kick in a central position past the upright. With the game beginning to stretch both sides tested the respective rearguards and Tyrell Belford was forced to produce a superb double stop to deny Byrne his second of the game.

And it was a similar story for Dunn as his low piledriver was brilliantly kept out by Jacob after Morgan had got in behind the United defence and played an intelligent square pass.

A winning goal appeared to be on the cards and deep into injury-time Dunn tucked home to claim a superb victory for Liverpool.

Good thread guys, thanks for posting the updates etc...we used to have a lot of reserve stuff on the 606 threads so is a useful one for me this like to see who's doing well in the youth set up and reserves.

Funny commentary in this as well where he pronounces his name as Coats (as we all do) but then straight away calls him Coawatez (or however its alleged to be pronounced)

Jack Dunn looks as if hes gonna be a top player, just got that composure in possesion ,and always seems to have time and space

My tip , I think Dunn will play regular 1st team if he stays fit

Yeah, Morgan's still getting in great positions but his final ball/shots have been off. He'll come good though and you can see it's pissing him right off.
