Just watching Apocalypse Now on BBC2 - one of my favourites, which I must have seen 20+ times. However, this must be a special edition, loads of stuff in it that I've not seen before and it's adding to the depth of the characters. Really loving it
I noticed it was on ten minutes ago, but I have to build myself up for a viewing of this truly outstanding film, it really deserves your full attention. I’ve just bought tickets to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Lisbon next May. I consider it a vote of confidence that we do have a future, and won’t all be buried in the plague pit or at war with the EU and China by then.
Lucky you! He's playing up here on that tour but all the decent seats are gone. Enjoy - if you've not seen him before you're in for a treat. Courtney Barnett is the support on the tour, and she is brilliant too - saw her last year.
Might have a chance if we are only fighting the eu but I think them and China might be asking a bit much
My wife has never been to Lisbon, a great city, and it seemed a good way to introduce her to it. If we still can’t travel by that time I suspect we will have much more to worry about than missed holidays.
I had to re-read that as first time I thought you were posting about a film called Apocalypse and that it was on Now. We watched Black Klansman last night, which I thought was excellent. Some very funny moments, but overall quite moving with very powerful closing scenes.
Excellent article in the Irish Independent about music promoter Vince Power. A top man, I knew him a little in the eighties, spending many a drunken night in his Mean Fiddler club in Harlesden. https://www.independent.ie/entertai...-a-boat-on-a-canal-it-was-great-39416054.html
A good evening of TV for me to while away the excesses of last night and ease myself into my night shift tomorrow. First watched ‘Joker’ which was nothing like I expected it to be. Brilliantly portrays a disturbed and troubled individuals descent into further madness and violence, and is compelling watching. Joaquin Phoenix is fantastic in the lead role and plays his part brilliantly. I’ve been told a lot of the scenes were improvised and they just let Phoenix do his stuff, which he does amazingly. Then started watching ‘Once upon a time in Iraq, that tells the story of the before, during and after of the Iraqi war that ousted Sadam and the chaos that ensued, from the points of view of normal people caught up in the conflict. Gives a real insight into what went on and will be of interest to many who want some understanding of why we are where we are today. Both are well worth watching.
Peter Green: Man of the World on BBC4. What a guitar player. Noel Gallagher saying that someone told him that the Fleetwood Mac that he knew was born out of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and then he listened to Oh Well.
Van Morrison Up On Cyprus Avenue, live concert from his 70th birthday in 2015, on BBC 4 now. Beautiful.
Van Morrison at the BBC on BBC4. Van, his band and Jools Holland performing Philosopher's Stone on the 1999 Hootenanny - pure musical perfection.
Van played in the open air in Newcastle this week, and didn’t mention the ****ing virus once. Top man. For fans of BBC4’s excellent Friday evening music content, tonight sees the first episode of what looks to be a great documentary on soul music, Soul America. On at 9.30.
