Nah mate still waiting. Certain it ain’t COVID to be honest. Still got a cough but starting to feel like I’ve had a proper kicking and ache all over. Feel like poo
I was the opposite, never really took much notice or thought much more than a time keeper. Yep, I was completely ignorant! Interesting to see their individual styles too. Can't remember who said it, but there was a quote from someone who said 'the band will only ever be as good as the drummer'. Seems a fair point.
Started watching “Fever Pitch: The Rise of the Premier League” Very interesting to watch and a fair bit from our own Sir Les……didn’t realise our game against Man City was the first Monday night televised game.
Finally got around to watching When Nirvana Came To Britain on iPlayer - well worth the watch if you are a fan of the band. Contributions from Grohl and Novoselic, as well as a host of roadies, tour managers, other bands, Steve Lamacq who interviewed them whilst they stayed in digs on Shepherds Bush Road and Jo Wiley (she's starting to show her age now!).. Interspersed with grainy footage from their first foray onto British shores, a memorable appearance on Top of the Pops and the climatic, mind-blowing headline show at Reading in 1992 (which I was lucky enough to be at) it charts their relationship with the UK, and how we were so much ahead of the game in comparison to the US in the support of them. Continuing with “Fever Pitch” and the third episode talks a lot about Keith Gillespie and his addiction to gambling. Comes over as a really nice guy who is happy to talk about his problems at the time and how much money he lost (£62,000 In two days on one occasion). Knowing first hand the perils of gambling addiction….it really touched a nerve.
Absolutely mate….and he’s got it spot on. It’s about the buzz of winning more than the money. And when he talks about telephone gambling not feeling like ‘real money’….that’s exactly what I say about online betting. Easy to bet fortunes…..it’s an addiction that’s hard to kick, that’s for sure
True. But it can be done. I'm (thankfully) living proof. Have not even thought about placing a bet in 17 months. Hand on heart. Not crossed my mind. And I can't say for a second that I miss it. (Sorry to digress from the original subject!)
You've both come through the other side of dealing with that monster - don't let the demon drag you back down, stay strong
Don’t apologise mate. Sorry to say it’s still something I fight against constantly….getting there slowly (self excluded from another account last night before I got silly) but addicted to the ‘buzz’ little steps, eh ?
After looking up recent pictures of Ms Wiley I now totally get your point….she is still amazingly gorgeous
Trying to get some stuff watched in my list on Netflix and started watching Black Crows, a Saudi (I think) drama series about various people who go off from their everyday lives to join ISIS. Not watched much Saudi stuff but 2 episodes (out of 30) in and it’s rather good
Now on Sky Arts, James Brown’s concert in Montreux in 1981. Astounding. I was lucky enough to see him live about eight years later.
When I was a ‘kid’ I never quite got JB; think he is great now (along with some amazing stars in the JB’s backing band - Fred Wesley, Bobby Byrd, Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker etc. etc.). Love to find this for a watch
Been trying to put several songs from it on here for you pal, but I'm obviously not clued up enough on how to do it ! Sorry about that, but there are a few to choose from on You Tube if you get the chance.
Cheers HR. Appreciate it. I did see a few of the tracks from YouTube last night. Man, that boy sweats! Must have been a great watch Sb even if he was eight years older.
