Just started James Ellroy’s This Storm, the second part of his projected quartet about crime and corruption in LA in the months after Pearl Harbour.

Ellroy is a genius, one of the great American writers of any genre, not only crime, but he is very strong meat indeed, and until you get into the rhythm his writing can be difficult. This is very good indeed, but for me his American Tabloid is unbeatable. Most are probably familiar with him from the movie LA Confidential, which I thought was excellent, but almost a comedy compared to the book of the same name. Ellroy is relentless, the corruption is endemic, there is no redemption.

Think I'm going to re-read The Stand by Stephen King to cheer myself up.

Good shout....Thinking I’m gonna charge up my kindle and re-read ‘If it’s not impossible’ the story of my absolute all time hero, Nicholas Winton. An amazing man who did some amazing, selfless deeds.

I'm just watching Broad Street Bullies, a documentary about the notorious Philadelphia Flyers Ice Hockey team of the mid-seventies. I've not watched it all yet, but it's very enthralling up to now and very well made. You don't need to be interested in Ice Hockey to enjoy it and it's only an hour long.

Currently working through Robert Harris' Cicero trilogy...just finished the first one, 'Imperium' and really enjoyable. Great insight into life in the Roman Empire's political system.

I think they, and Fatherland, are his best books by far. Enjoy!

Fatherland was a fascinating and scary read...so nearly non-fiction.

Nothing to do with having sone down time due to the virus, but I've just finished re-watching the whole of Breaking Bad, and it was as good as the first time round.

If you're looking for something to get your teeth into whilst coccooned in your home, this will fill many hours of your time

We were struggling to get basic meats at the supermarket so got a home delivery from a company that was recommended - Fenns of Piccadilly. Got a pack that included pork chops, mince, burgers, chicken breasts and bacon. All looks good and decent value at £25. Just tried the burgers and they were excellent. Worth a try.

My excellent local butchers, Rowleys, has closed as a shop but is still selling online and delivering. I really fancy an enormous rib of beef.

This was WhattsApped to me today. A really clever site. Well worth a look.

Open the following link. You will see the entire earth. There are numerous green dots around it. These dots are local radio stations. Touch the green dot and play the local radio station. You can listen to any radio station in the world!
    Some stations are amazing!
