That looks a comfortable win at the end of the day, but that avoids the difficult truth that an initial 11 of experienced PL, mostly international level players huffed and puffed without success against a hard-working Wanderers team with an average age not much less than Joe Biden! Will take the win, but we really need more effective performances from the 2nd string.
That has That has been the case in the FA Cup for ever. The so called big sides have often struggled against so called lesser teams and sometimes they lose. For the 'small' team it is a huge highlight of their football career and maybe a game they will remember and talk about all their lives. The 'big' will expect to win and sometimes they are not as motivated as they need to be. Those two opposite attitudes go part of the way to even up the game more than you would expect on paper. The giant killing of the FA cup is one of the highlights of the competition so let's give some respect to the players and enjoy the efforts.
Nice little run outs for some first teamers in the last half hour who had to come on and get the job done
Between the Sheffield and Pool games there are 12 days 45 minutes of football in between that can’t do any player any harm, they probably need it to keep sharp They run about everyday in training...I can’t see 45 minutes doing any harm...injury is a risk but they can get that whilst getting out the bath
No 6/10 players are bang average I’d rather have one 8/10 player let’s just give Jose the credit he deserves sometimes instead of taking the scenic route to finding faults
That was a comfortable win, Spurs were wasteful and had they taken chances then it could have been 3-1 at half time and ended 7-2 Cup performances don’t matter, the result does and so far this season, all 3 cup competitions have gone to plan
Yeah agree with that. 6s are fine from a squad player perspective but not a first XI. I’d say for instance Ben Davies is a 6, I like him, he’s solid, dependable and won’t let you down much but ultimately you wouldn’t want a team of Ben Davies’ if you have lofty ambitions.
yeah for me an 8/10 is a game changer 9/10s you’re talking world class 6 are mid table performances and squad fillers
Actually got me thinking now at where our players are at in terms of marks out of 10. I’d say: Kane - 10. Son - 9. Ndombele, Hojbjerg and Reguilon - 8. Ndombele especially can go higher once his fitness is sorted. Lloris - 7.5. Lo Celso when not injured - 7. Can go higher too. Vinigoal and Bergwijn - 6.5. Bergwijn with better finishing can go higher. Davies and Sissoko - 6. Aurier - 5.5. As brainfarty as he can be, he’s put in some good displays this season. Lucas, Lamela, Dier, Toby, Bale - 5. Bale can be so much higher if he sorts himself out, looked better today and needs to build on that. Winks, Gazzaniga, Sanchez, Doherty and Tanganga - 4.5. Japh can go a lot higher but his injuries this season have wrecked him. Hart - 2.5. Gedson - 1. Joey Rodon and his magic hat is obviously a 10 but just needs to play more.
Yes BBC, this sums up both goals. Not, technically incorrect, but rather undersells both finishes. Ndombele ensured there would be no late drama when he finished from close range and then stabbed home a fourth in stoppage time. Stabbed home????
You win titles if you have players with a floor of 6/10 every game You win nothing with a player who is 8/10 one game in six and significantly lower inbetween
So the 6/10 turns up every week but the 8/10 doesn’t if your 6/10 isn’t turning up every week then you’re in a relegation battle
Unfortunately it's the 8/10 every six games players that the media concentrates on, who are often flair players but also often don't contribute anything but "looking flairful" (which isn't a word but perhaps should be). This skews the debate toward trying to fit in players that look good but are not necessarily good for the team.
In all the commotion celebrating Dier Hard's favourite player scoring from 25 yards with his weaker foot, I forgot to mention: Tanguy's ball to Kane to get that move started was deliciously disguised and perfectly weighted.
It isn't just the media....fans only seem to notice a few things, mistakes, goals and assists being the major ones. Mistakes are a terrible way of judging anyone.....Sanchez suffers from that. He generally plays pretty well and prevents two or three good chances every match but also makes a few errors. Last night was a very good example of that...Alderweireld got skinned leaving Sanchez no option but to move out to close down the cross. He did that ok but only succeeded in deflecting the ball that came in to a Wycombe player who scored. Sanchez gets blamed for the goal when it was actually Alderweireld who caused the problem.
As I have said before, mistakes that lead to a goal being conceded are remembered more than those that lead to a goal not being scored. The mistake is also amplified by whether it leads to the FT result being a loss or draw.
