that made me snigger. But the suggestion its the reason is ludicrous.

If we were after Poyet due to the Sartori link, Sartori isn't just gonna go "anybody live next to any managers we could try?" as plan B

Its like the club stumble from one appointment to the next with no aforethought, long term vision or thinking outside the box, on the off chance we happen across a cure. They then wonder why we sack so many managers

Bit unfair that tbh. You may have noticed I'm not in favour of him but if he does get the job, even I think there'll be a bit more to the decision than where his gaff is.

Strange few days mate...things happening so fast.

I heard Gus was nailed on to get it..then news released he hadn't...logical reason because of DoF I guess. (This was new guys directing this).

I believe Cowleys will get it now..(Not upset about this..but my SAFC head and heart wanted Alardyce or Keane...big characters - dreaming again)

Announcements end of week or early next week now...Poyet decision knocked timescales)

FYI - I heard 'Summerbee' was Tom the snake Sloanes.

Not mine unfortunately...I'm a bit more ambitious than pinning my hopes on anyone suggested today. If its not going to be a Gus or a Sam , then Pearson is the one and only choice.. alas, i'm thinking our recruitment team are missing a trick but it looks like its going deeper than that and the recruitment strategy, even with Billionaire and millionaire new owners, is not going to be really ambitious..

Sounds like the exact reasons we need a sporting director and a proper structure in place

Need the takeover completed leaving Donald and Methven clearly minority shareholders unable to manipulate and Sporting Director to Schwarz/Cortese level.

The long term appointment we need to get right is the Sporting Director. Obviously it would be good to have some longevity to manager, but it should be who's the best we can attract for our current situation for the way we want to play, whatever league we are currently in at the time.

Ok but Rodwell is the one pushing his case the strongest. The fact he's his neighbour will have no bearing on that. No, not at all.

Cheap and out of work....Not what I'd expect from a billionaire taking over, with a DoF model, after what's went on these past three years.

it definitely will. Put just because Rodwell is pushing his case the strongest, doesn't mean Rodwell has the strongest voice.

If we hire Cowley, and appoint a Sporting Director and the takeover happens, it will be because those guys wanted Cowley out of the people available to them. The fact that Rodwell pushed for him will just be part of the reason.

We just need to get away from this idea that the only reason Cowley is up for the Sunderland job is because he happens to be a neighbour to Rodwell and its another Paul Reid situation.

He’ll get my full support but I said I would judge the new owner on how ambitious the managerial appointment was and it’s simply not ambitious. Fingers crossed it works out. It’s also fair to say this hasn’t been directed by the new guys so would suggest rodwell etc are going to have a massive say in football decisions still. All this talk of people coming in with great contacts looks just that- talk.

I think people need to get realistic about League One. It’s the absolute pits. And any manager worth his salt wouldn’t drop down to this level, even to Sunderland, especially with the opportunity of failure realistic. People wanting an ‘ambitious’ manager are just not being realistic. We need someone in who can get us promoted now, then maybe an ambitious appointment can be made once in the championship. It’s just never going to happen in this league.
