Worth a thread of its own.

Meire supplicant Rich Cawley reporting today that our POTY wants a pay rise else will be looking at pastures new / presumably also known as 'Bramall Lane'.

Firstly, Holmes deserves a pay rise based on a stellar last season, and it must be all the more galling for him when he has to share a dressing room with high earning wasters like Watt and Teixera.

Secondly - this is a massive test of Meire's motives and real ambitions.
Has the legendary sophisist really changed her ways, or will the whiff of a transfer cheque once again prove too big a temptation.

Anyone mad enough to even consider buying a ST off this mob should wait and see what happens with Ricky Holmes first.

Sell your top scorer, best free kick taker and only creative attacker <applause>

Does anyone know the corresponding player at MK Dons ?

Will see how the summer goes but miss the social.

The club haven't been scared to throw money at players looking for contracts, and this has an air of "JBG" about it.

Holmes is bearing his 30's and has probably made modest money his whole career. If we offer more than any competitor, I reckon he'll stay.

Holmes is a very good player at this level.
    Therefore we will sell him.
It's club policy, we sell players and pick up freebies and loanees, no reason to expect anything to change. At least it looks as though Pearce is staying, as club captain, so we should be solid enough in defence, but it's hard to see where the goals will come from.

Rich Cawley has softened us up before with transfers like JBG and Lookman.

It really shouldn't be an issue giving Ricky the pay rise he deserves - pay off the 6/7 wages thieves starting with Roger Johnson. That will free up funds.

Holmes did say plainly that the season Charlton have just had was not what he expected. He signed up thinking he was going to be part of a promotion challenging team.

If he believes that misconception is not going to be addressed this summer he may choose to leave anyway, rather than being sold just because he has some value. After all RH turns 30 this summer. How many more seasons of 100% commitment and stamina has he got left in him? Perhaps only one at Championship level.
If he is offered a chance to play in the 2nd tier during the summer transfer window, he may well believe it'll be the last one that comes his way.

I certainly don't want him to leave but if he does and it's his own choice, I won't really be able to blame him.

Who could blame any good player for wanting to leave a club with no ambition? A club on a downwards spiral run by a board consisting of
    Roland
    Meire
    Murray.
Until they go the Ricky Holmes scenario will be the norm for good players.

rochdale's 32 year old top scorer is being linked. says it all about our ambition.

would be a bloody cheek if the regime came out with "nothing wrong with ageing 32 year old strikers".

anyone who renews before our squad has been finalised needs their head testing.

Here we go again. Why do they keep on selling our best players. Absolutely pathetic. You were told a crock of **** Reams and co.

Or perhaps Holmes's agent is feeding the papers this story to speed up wage negotiations or offers from London Champ Clubs .... QPR/Brentford would probably be of interest to Holmes

I certainly wouldn't begrudge Holmes a move. he was probably sold the usual line we always get about building a promotion winning team, when the reality was completely different. He saw the likes of Lookman leave in january, with no reasonable replacement bought in, and if he's 30 years old, he proabbly feels he is worth playing at a higher level, and why not.
For all those who thought our magnificent end-of-season run would be a boost for next season, it won't be if the squad is dismantled in the summer. And for those who think that attracting decent players is complicated by the protests (looking at you Murray)decent players want to be part of a decent set up, and you don't achieve that by consistently selling the best ones.

I gather Carruthers has been poor this season so a swap for Holmes would make sense to Gobinson :(

So the early signs are that the amount of Lookman money given to KR to spend will be a big fat zero. It's death by a thousand cuts.

If they had really "learned from mistakes" they would have changed their player policy, but they haven't. They've made it perfectly clear that selling profitable players and buying cheaper ones is still part of THE PLAN, so I'm only expecting more of the same old rubbish, because all the previous transfer windows don't lie.

How much will we realistically get for Holmes?

EDIT - how much will RD get?

Only a year left on his deal but we should be able to get more than what we bought him for (£125k). If we keep him until Jan and then sell, £100k maximum.
