Yes, there were about 5 or 6 houses which I rode past daily and I am sure one of them was called Clovelly.

Interestingly, close to there an estate was built and Johnny Stephen's who played for City in the fifties lived on Dawney Drive which is close to where these houses were. He used to get the same bus as us to the games, and we would walk down North Road chatting to him. Wouldn't happen these days.

Do you mean what is now an estate agents called oscars John? The hairdressers you mentioned??
I had a quick look and there is a small row of houses but none called clovelly
Would it be more one of the posher houses near to plantation drive that might be called clovelly as quite a few of them seem to have names.

Possibly, though I can't imagine anywhere up there being called Bypass Road. I did go around there a lot as my Grandparents lived in Anlaby Park area.

    What a ****er.

It;s not on any old maps by name.

It's too east for Anlaby, it's too west for Hull,

Sure I can visualise a 'Clovelly' in gold paint script on a glass pane above the front door.
Fairly certain it must be just outside Hull boundary sign could be on either side of the road.before Anlaby Park pub.

I thought it might be the row of 6 houses now on the northern side of the eastern extremity of Springfield Way, 1930s maps show they pre-date the building of Springfield Way. But they are 12 semis, so don’t lend themselves to being named rather than numbered. I’m stumped.

Maybe Edgar Ainsworth was a consummate liar, in the 1939 register and even after his death!

    It’s definitely fishy**

**little Edgar related quip for you there

Maybe newer owners just took the name off?

Interesting spelling or misspelling of Bypass, perhaps other details are incorrect and the house has been demolished at some point...

That's what I'm wondering. Frustratingly I cant find again the list of houses that Clovelly was one of, a thorough search of my recent internet history come up short (and is a dangerous game for other reasons!).

Bye Pass Road is a common spelling in several UK towns, but not in Anlaby it seems!

EDIT: the other candidates still standing are the row of houses on the south side of Anlaby Road, west of Anlaby Park Road North between that road and the current ERYC boundary sign. They are old enough, one is named St Marks Vicarage, another is called Cranleigh.

ANOTHER EDIT: I do know deep down that this doesn't really matter. It has just intrigued me for no real reason!

I'm sure I've seen the name, but I just can't remember where exactly. I just thought the houses set back from Hull Road, which is where the Anlaby bypass eventually started, seemed the most obvious place, as from Memory a bypass of Anlaby was being discussed long before it actually happened, and that was the likely starting point.

Current under-23s player Matty Jacob is the grandson of ex-Tiger Geoff Barker. So he could add to the list if his career continues to develop.

I've found the list of house names in the row of houses I was tracking down - they are:

    Junedale, Anlaby Common
    Estherick, Anlaby Common
    Hollingworth, Anlaby Common
    Lyndhurst, Anlaby Common
    Greenway, Anlaby Common
    Strathallan, Anlaby Common
    Clovelly, Anlaby Common

No matches with the house names in post 2232. Confused!
