Looks like Gregor Rioch. I once bollocked him from the Kempton when he threw his captains armband to the ground and walked off in a sulk after being subbed. At the full time whistle he ran right across the pitch to confront me, then decided not too. That very same night, Chrtistmas time, I was at a house party in Brough and who should come walking in but no less then Gregor Rioch and he recognised me straight away, bit awkward. He did apologise for throwing the captains armband to the floor. When he returned with Macclesfield and scored two goals against us his celebrations at the final whistle along with Steve Wilson were totally over the top and not very classy.
The funny shaped house on the front of what was Boothferry Park, now a housing estate, and was once occupied by master groundsman Stan Coombes is being renovated at last. It has been left to rot for years then a couple of guys painted the outside brickwork in white paint, cheap white paint at that and in looked awful, but now the chimney stack has been cut down and a new roof put on. I can only hazard a guess that the inside is being gutted. Although I have never been in the house I was told that it had a spiral staircase hence the semi circle look outside alongside the front door.
I often walk past it before home games. Think it’s recently been up for sale, suspect it went very quickly.
Used to be Major Buckley's house then Raich's. Coombsy was a much later occupant. Not sure who was the last manager to live there.
I was told that Don Revie also lived there at one point but I have since found out that that may not have been the case as I was talking to someone who lived next door to him in Hessle.
A surprise but there again Albert Ave would have been more upmarket back then as was most of Anlaby Road.
Yep. Anlaby Road had some big houses and villas. Still one villa remains opp HRI. Luftwaffe didn't help. Bill McCracken also used to live on Anlaby Rd south side opp De La Pole ave.
Ron Shiner used to get off the bus at De La Pole Ave, I assumed he lived in that area when he played for City.
There used to be a stately home type building where Albert Ave is now, all the land between Willerby Road and Anlaby Road, from Walton Street to well past Albert Ave, was the estate of JW Beeton, who was my missus great great grandfather (I may well have missed a great off there). It was a willow farm, supplying his basket weaving business on Humber Street.
