Spurs had a great defence. Then upgraded it by buying Aurier and Sanchez...

The record for the longest post ever? ;)

The OP in 2013 is testimony of the duration of this problem and successive managers just ignoring it.

You said he wasn't joining. But we've agreed a deal and have signed him so he will be joining.

I can find the link from the club site which confirms if you're still confused.

You said both were arriving this season in the summer window. You blew it mate.. you absolutely creamed yourself over it. And in the process made yourself look a laughing stock

And as i said next year solves nothing this year. He was not joined merely agreed to join in the future.

Ah well, I'm an optimist :) it seems you take pleasure in the club not signing their targets :(

You mistake pleasure in seeing you he's up spectacularly for pleasure in seeing off end up doing exactly what I thought they'd do.

That's fair enough - some fans want the best for their club. Some fans are happy for the club to fail so they make themselves look good. Such a shame :(

Talking about defence. It is becoming quite apparent that the team with the best defence will win the League. This is because many teams have very good attacks. Spurs, Chelsea, City Man United, and LFC all have good attacks which on their day will pulverise the minnows and not so minnows given the chance. Wenger put out a non defensive team against us and we smashed them. City smashed Watford. Spurs did that to Everton. And so on.

And the weakest link in most cases of these strong teams are their defences. City would be a world beater were it not for their defence. Chelsea and Spurs are not as strong but they have better defences. But still their defence are still their weakest points. We could be a top elite team too we're it not for the weak defence, full of errors. The pundits and the computer all predict (for what it's worth) that LFC have the easiest group and most likely to get out. Yet our defence may make it more difficult than it should be.

What I find strange is that Klopp has not urgently rectified the deficiencies. Yes, he did try to get VVD and it wasn't his fault that Southampton made it a priority to keep him. But surely if improving the defence was a top priority then Klopp should never have " put all his eggs in one basket". Surely there must one or two defenders out there apart from VVD who could improve us? We had Sakho Lovren Klavan Matip and who do we sell? Sakho. Probably the best defender of the lot. The best cb we currently have is Matip who was a free. Not that this is a negative but it means that he is older and won't be around for many years.

Klopp cannot blame anyone but himself. If we do strip his uplifting personality, his great ways with players and his dynamism on match days, i struggle to see how he is a huge improvement on Rodgers. The stats are there but we have to keep the hope.

Matip is 26..... his birthday was last month.

Sahko was an assume who fancies himself. Positionally he is **** as well.

The fact that klopp has said again nobody he watched is better than lovren says this is not going away.

Lol victimises certain players. That is rich. Such a shame you see glee in liverpools shortcomings :(

Hopefully we sell Coutinho next season, Keita falls through, Lemar and VVD doesn't happen just so you can say you told us so about Edwards :)

I think that could come back and bite him in the arse one day. No one better than lovren? In that case he has not been looking at the right places. Keane, Maguire Evans Ake not better? And that's only what comes straight to mind. I am sure there must be a few more here and abroad.
I think we may come to the conclusion that assessing the quality of defenders is not his strong point.

To be fair, Klopp signed Matip to replace Skrtel and he wants VVD to replace Lovren.

My issue is that Klopp is either too stubborn to look for alternatives to address issues right away, or he's prioritising other areas like attack and midfield first.

Either way - we have to buy in January.

    I agree.

    1. Tactically huge questions are now arising about klopp. Has to be cos the modern game requires tactical boys and while pressing like.**** to win it back is good either his players are not doing what he wants or are not smart enough to not all.go at once.

    2. His insistence that there's either not 5 better in the world or that nobody he looked at us better.... well that's fine but after defending lovren klopp is judged on results.

    3. You are right to get anywhere near 4th we need to buy in January and hope its not too late... It could well be.

This defence is not getting better. We are going to hire HRC as a Central back.

Thinking that our defence could improve dramatically under Klopp is wishful thinking imo. Even at Dortmund, where he had players like Hummels, Subotic and Kehl, who were far better than anything we have now, they were a we'll-score-one-more-than-you team. First couple of seasons in the Champions League, they didn't get out the group stage. It is what it is. Either Klopp adjusts the system (unlikely), he finds a way to make it Workshop more consistently (hopefully) or he'll come under real pressure (hopefully not).

This is a good performance, best since the beginning of the season. Gomez deserves the man of the match.
