The goal we conceded was preventable

We conceded an early goal against Tottenham on Sunday. Lovren was not poor but we missed Matip.

I thought Lovren was poor. Despite us dominating, Lovren was often bullied by Kane, and got done by Son who then went onto hit the bar.

he’s a poor defender and the excuse for him is often that he defends well for 80 mins but then has 1-2 brain farts. I’m sorry but that’s not good enough for this level. He makes mistakes in literally every game he plays.

Henderson got plaudits for his goal and a better second half, but he was woeful on the weekend.

As Jimmy says, Lovren got bullied by Kane. Whereas watch a few clips of Van Dijk putting Kane on his ass. Think Carragher says it well that Lovren gets too hyped up and is looking to make a mistake.

Our defence fell asleep when Villa scored the first goal-problem of zonal marking?

I dont think they fell asleep, we hold the line and dont run back with there attackers creating a melee.

It's the first time it hasnt worked, usually the ball either misses everyone or they got caught offside. I think 3 of their players where actually offside when the ball was struck.

It was just an exceptional well timed run. Doesn't happen often enough to change the tactic.

Not the first time it hasn't worked but generally works more than it doesn't

Our defence was good yesterday, but we are yet to keep a clean sheet this season at Anfiled. Lovren has done well, credit to him.<applause>.

Imo some of the defensive issues this season stem from the change in the offside rule. We used to hold a good like and step up well in open play and at free kicks. The new rule where the linesman waits to raise his flag means that we have to play offside and then track back just incase it isn't given. It's causing panic and needs to be sorted out. End of the day what is the linesman for if he can't give off offsides anymore?

Or goes into a second or third phase which means it won't go back at all.

Yeah it's something that we need to sort out despite our results and league standing as it'll become more important as the season goes on.

I am worried we are not keeping clean sheets, the only consolation is that we are winning without playing well.

Get Matip back in the team and it should hopefully improve further.

Yep, all the whinging this season about how poor City can't possibly defend with Pep only spending £380m on defenders

Meanwhile we played most of the season without our 1st choice GK and without our 2nd choice CB, not a word said

Jordan Henderson as a CB yesterday say it all. We have been stretched beyond expectation. Would not be surprised to see Sepp Van Berg coming in as a CB on Saturday

We're not thin at CB, probably our strongest position; VVD, Gomez, Matip, Lovren and Fabinho before looking at alternatives. Just unlucky with injuries in that position, happened last season too.

I'd rather give Hoover a go, isnt he a cb by trade that can play full back if needs must

Gomez, Matip and Lovren are all injury prone, and unreliable. Fabinho isn’t a CB.

We should look to sell Lovren and bring another in.

To me, Lovren is not that bad provided he is willing to be squad player.Nathan Ake i s a good player if he can fit into our system.
