Rovers centre-back Tom Davies’ injury woes have worsened, with the 28-year-old out of action until at least early 2021.

Davies has been plagued by knee concerns since joining the Gas last summer, consigning him to just 21 games last season before undergoing surgery.

The defender battled tendinitis for months before going under the knife in February, and since then he has had surgery on his other knee to tackle a similar issue.

Gas boss Ben Garner, speaking in his first digital press conference of the season on Wednesday, revealed he does not expect Davies to return to training until the new year. Garner said:
“Tom unfortunately had damage in one of his knees and had to have surgery last season. He has had to have surgery in the other knee as well, so he’s had that done. Tom’s a fantastic character and he’s so positive. He’s already well into his rehab from the second surgery, so it’s just a case now of getting him through the rehab process and getting him back into training and hopefully playing as quickly as we can. I don’t like to put time frames on injuries or surgeries, but it will certainly be into the New Year before Tom returns to training. He’s a great guy and a fantastic character. He’s so positive towards his rehab already, and even just having him around the training ground this week is a positive influence on everyone in the squad,"
