I have just watched today’s podcast (I am sure they will post it soon enough).
They raised an important point about the Carabou cup game on Wednesday.
The next round is before Christmas and gives a new manager an opportunity to see his team in a competitive match before the Boxing Day league games, which makes winning so much more important.
Let’s hope we don’t blow it.

 

Great overview of Ralph’s tenure, departure (?) or whatever it is! Double whammy imo, we were leaky at back; RH adapted tactics to support the defence e.g. perseverance with Ely because of his positional / defensive qualities at the detriment of offence play; hoping that the chances were creating would continue & we’d stick them away. Forwards lacking in quality & there you go!

You didn’t talk much about the actual game for the obvious reasons & I would have loved to have heard an extended show.
Ps. Martin; how are you finding you extra responsibilities of ad reading now! (no need to answer!)

Saints decided to sack manager Ralph Hasenhüttl after a dismal 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle. At the time of recording, this was yet to be announced but now has been made official. The team also cover the upcoming EFL Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday with James Mappin from The Wednesday ’Til I Die Podcast, provide an update on away fans sitting in the home sections at Saint Marys and preview this weeks game against Liverpool... Busy week!

With Saints confirming that Ralph had (somewhat sadly) parted company with the Club after nearly 4 years in charge, thoughts swiftly moved to who might replace him. Straight out of left-field came Luton Town boss, Nathan Jones.

TSP213a sees Ben, Glen and The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell get together to discuss Jones' imminent arrival, his credentials and style, how Saints players and fans might react to the appointment and the variety of challenges awaiting the Welshman on the South Coast.

Nathan Jones’ first game in charge ends in a 3-1 defeat at Anfield but getting anything there was always going to be a tall order for new manager. The team break down what happened in that match as well as the cup match against Sheffield Wednesday and they look ahead to what needs to be done during the World Cup break.

Although the Premier League is taking a break, we aren't! We'll be doing special World Cup podcasts right here throughout the competition, focusing on the England squad and any other Saints focused news and updates. Just watching 216 on YouTube. Really interesting stuff in there, especially about Romeu's departure.

 

I’m very much a half glass full person but obviously NJ is taking its toll. However, after Saturdays result, I’m a little upbeat, as I think most fans always try to be, looking for any glimmer, regardless of how ridiculous it is. Just listened to 216 & I’m ready to jump! TSP have just well & truly smacked me across the chin. Insightful comments & constructive criticism. Definitely not a knock on TSP, just a damming report from a team I highly respect. OMG.

 

How soon is too soon to admit to making an almighty mistake, and sacking a manager - have we seen enough to make our minds up? In this weeks podcast, the guys do an in-depth breakdown on Nathan Jones and the job he's done so far, we'll also discuss if that game against Forest was the worst we've seen at St Marys since 2005.

Dan Sheldon joins the panel once more to give us his insight on a year of Sports Republic and what might be going wrong at Southampton FC. And, with the January transfer window still open Saints have made a new addition to the team - we’ll discuss the latest rumours and what’s still desperately needed. Everton are next in the Premier League, we'll preview that game as well.

Watched #216 last night, some very interesting stuff about Sport Republic from Dan Sheldon and Jacob Tanswell. Rasmus Ankersen’s ego seems to be growing like Topsy, in inverse proportion to his success at SFC. The most telling insight was that a year after his departure from Brentford, they still haven’t felt the need to replace him, and just look where they are in the league.

If last week's episode was called ‘how soon is too soon to sack a manager’ then this weeks has to be called ‘what a difference a week makes.' Saints enjoyed the first win at Everton in 26 years this week, and it was well worth the wait. In this weeks podcast, the team review the Everton and Man City games, preview the upcoming game against Aston Villa and break down any looming transfer rumours moving into the final weeks of the window.
