And either entirely guesses or a breach of confidentiality by Pochettino which would be sufficient reason in itself to savk him.
I can praise Levy for a great deal...picking managers isn't in the mix...and missing out on Van Gaal was one of the best things that has happened to us since Terry Neill ****ed off.
Thanks for reminding me of that Nike as with the slogan "You don't win silver, you lose gold" This is the thing about the win at all costs mentality: it makes people act really ****ing weird, as Man Utd fans have been demonstrating on a constant basis ever since their club's culture of success evaporated, which currently manifests by some obsessive little gonks replying "small club" to every one of our club's tweet that make it look like us jumping them 6-1 may have caused serious psychological damage to these derplords
There are fine margins in football. Had Kane and Son continued their form in tandem, you would have been getting something out of these games you’ve lost or drawn. That would put you in Leicester’s position and still competing in the cups and you would all be excited about the promising season ahead. Yes, Mourinho is a pragmatist, but he can afford to be when Kane or Son can suddenly find goals out of nothing. Spurs didn’t look a team lacking in attacking ideas or ability in those spells at Old Trafford or at Southampton. And the defence is generally solid. The reality is that he is too dependent on Kane and Son, but no team has players of that calibre they can easily replace. There isn’t a ready made solution. You’re not alone either. Teams are playing twice a week every week. Only City in recent times are showing any consistency in performances and results. Utd put 9 past Soton yet a week earlier looked clueless going forward against Sheffield Utd. Liverpool looked potent at Spurs and West Ham yet either side of those games they lost at home to Burnley and Brighton without scoring.
I can’t see us winning a trophy/trophies with this core of players not just this manager. I really don’t know how to convince yourself or anyone else on here that it’s the 2nd manager who’s tried to get this core of players over the line...using a philosophy most of you fawn over yet this same core of players played with the same hunger as we have witnessed once again. They did it for over a year with Poch but we all keep on forgetting, not me. I dont care who we get next...unless the bulk of Poch’s babies get sold we are not getting anywhere. I’m not as easily willing to dust myself down and start backing some of these limited players under another regime. if your sole purpose is to just watch pretty football then fine...not me...I want both and if I have to chase one of the two, it’s trophies for Spurs. PSG won 3-0
I would have said that Levy's relationship with Poch would have precluded him from getting the sack, but Levy knows what to do for the club.
The problem is that we're soooooo predictable. We have one tactic...and it was negated by us trying to defend 1-0 leads and that if you continually foul Kane, we're pretty much ****ed.
As I said, Mourinho is not exempt from being fired. But given the amount of money invested into bringing him to the club (which was way more than Poch), and the fact he was supported very heavily in the transfer market (arguably more than Poch was in his 5.5 years at Spurs), I'm inclined to believe Levy would be willing to see if he can turn it around. Furthermore, there's no tangible evidence to suggest Levy and Mourinho's relationship has deteriorated yet. Whereas Levy and Poch's relationship did. He also reminded the press in his pre-match interview that Spurs are still in every competition, which was probably a reminder to the hierarchy that there is still a sliver of hope for some glory this season.
You don't think a squad that has Son, Kane, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Reguilon, Lloris, Bergwijn and Hojberg, with players like Bale, Vinicius and Alli on the bench, are good enough to win silverware, when the worst ever Arsenal team in 25 years was able to? I'm not denying you need better players in certain areas, but it's clear the tactics (and squad management) by your manager aren't getting the best out of them.
Beautiful game? the same core of muppets threw the best thing since sliced bread(according to Spurs fans)under the bus....they ignored his Mr Tottenham philosophies. At least they had 75% possession so let’s forget the results. I’m not willing to forget their limits you keep on forgetting not me! you’re entitled to watch the game and not care about winning trophies...not just one...not a piddly League cup. I’ve explained myself umpteen times on here and I’ll do it again Trophies are the end game of football...I’m sick of watching wishy washy sideways tripe with no end result. You and the others enjoy it...that’s fine. Not me...my football needs an end product. Without naming names, many posters weren’t giving Jose the time because it’s Jose. That is evident from the general comments regarding the man. That’s up to you too...however I am not willing to allow a certain few players to have another bastard clean slate start under another manager just to display the same lack of minerals in the same big game scenarios. You’ll get the manager you are happy with so just man up and stick it out..then it’s my turn to remind you about how you enjoy backing loser players because you have a few romantic memories of them at their heyday...not me though..I can’t do that under another manager. New arrivals and a handful of old timers deserve my support. you’re happy with bang average so long as we knock it about...I’m not! ive been watching us for over 37 years...that’s all the years of my life bar the first 7. I am/was more than willing to stick it out and see if Jose Mourinho can do a job. Nothing wrong with that considering the reasons behind it. I hope you and the rest remember my pov when tackling me with the same question every time I try to bring the balance by looking at the players. and btw Colin that doesn’t make me a ****in plastic. I recall you using that term a few days back to describe the Spurs fans who wished trophieS for their club and were/are willing to try a pragmatic approach for a set period. You flatter yourself if you think any plastic would choose Spurs to follow...considering what a plastic is.
if a manager is responsible for the players output then how much responsibility and blame lies on a chairman for the output of a manager? I hear that a manager’s job is to hone the skills of the group...I’d say it’s the owners job to do the same. I can’t help it...I am able to look beyond the obvious targets of blame. I’m not just about style of play or like I said last night top players would be queuing up to join us,Leeds,Southampton...they must obviously be thinking trophies too
Majority of who you mentioned I’ve got no problems with and I have stated that the newbies and a handful of the old brigade are good enough but not the rest no...we won’t win anything meaningful with most of the players you omitted from that squad. it’s no point saying even Arsenal won...I mean even Wigan and Lesta have won big trophies...it’s not the point to focus on the handful when the bulk is too **** to win the big ones for the club. you win the piddly trophies to get a taste for the big ones in the hope of bigger and better things ask the likes of Kompany, Pep and prime Jose...not because we want to parade a Milk cup across London for a good ol brag
Why is there no point saying this? Most of those players I listed are core components of your team. Our squad is inferior to yours and our manager is significantly less decorated than yours. Yet Arteta was able to win an FA Cup in his first 6 months at the club. You're telling me Spurs don't have the quality or ability to win a trophy? Of course they do. However, they will struggle the longer Mourinho stays on because the players aren't suited/interested in this brand of football. The likelihood of this happening isn't high even if you won the League Cup though. This sort of philosophy worked for Pep and Mourinho at other clubs because they had an elite talent pool and huge budgets (Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Bayern etc) that the majority of other teams - in that era - could not compete with. Spurs aren't in that position and, now, there's more competition to deal with than before.
There’s no point comparing to what Arsenal achieved because that does not influence the goings on at Spurs. Like life, I don’t see football as that systematic as though the mathematics suggests we should be winning with what we have because another club did that. The physical reality is that there is a core of players that don’t have the required minerals to deliver the trophies...they’ve proved that themselves. Sometimes the standards of the club will elevate the player. We can’t even use that because we don’t win things so that culture doesn’t exist...therefore no point comparing...got to look at Spurs from our own reality. So that philosophy of creating a winning culture can only exist at big clubs with huge budgets and the rest should settle for what? pretty football at best? Not really aiming to get to the top? No thanks...I’d rather pack it in and start following the Harlem Globetrotters for my kicks. It’s not delusion either because we are amongst a handful of clubs that are that one level below what I talk about so for me it’s important to get everything in order to tackle that next stage and not thinking like a loser is one of the basic requirements necessary to get that ball rolling.
I've watched a lot of Arsenal and Man Utd matches recently and I think there is a hidden benefit from having won a lot of trophies that Spurs don't have. Namely an inferiority complex in the opposition. Eg West Ham absolutely outplayed you in the PL but squandered chance after chance while they scored more difficult chances against us. I actually think we've got as good a chance of beating City as you had of beating Chelsea because we've done quite well against them mostly.
You've conflated two assumptions...that 'minerals' matter and that we lack them. There is no evidence I can see to support either assumption yet you present them as fact.
im doing that Feng Shui thing again of feeling the vibrations in my surroundings in order to catch the aura
One factor which seems to have been missing in the Spurf/Spurlock-led debate is, in my opinion, a key element. It is the fact that professional football - especially at the top level - is a spectator sport. Teams lower down the pyramid don't get big crowds, not because they don't win trophies (because they do) but because the skill levels are not good enough for people to want to watch them. So if all you want is a positive result, regardless, there really is little point in attending matches. Just wait for the results on tv - or, if you're feeling adventurous, follow the text on the BBC website, or watch a bunch of ex-professionals watch the match. But if you go to a match the main thing that brings excitement and/or pleasure is the perfectly timed tackle, the sublime through-ball, the finger-tip save. Spectator sport. Of course, the object of each match for every team is to win it, hence the super-object of trophies. But on my death-bed I shan't cherish the memory of a cupboard full of tin trophies. It'll be a pass from Hoddle to Galvin; or an interception by Ledley King; or a bending rocket from the left round the keeper into the top right corner from Harry Kane. I savour and cherish these moments. Of course, I was beside myself with joy at Wembley - twice - when we won a cup, and devastated when Gary Mabbutt was too quick for his own good and put the ball in his own net which meant Coventry won (and especially so because I had friends from Germany and Thailand with me). Trophies matter, yes. As I said, they give matches an objective. But when all is said and done, it's more important to travel through beautiful scenery than to arrive at an ugly or simply unattractive destination. Right now, I watch Spurs in the hope - belief, even - that there will be some occasional flashes of real brilliance. But, whilst I shall never flag in my support for them, this optimism is getting badly bruised by the boredom I now experience. I've even - unheard of ever before - fallen asleep during a couple of recent games on tv. I didn't want José becaue of the attitudes he encourages, but was willing to give him a chance to prove me wrong. How much longer should I be waiting before declaring that he has failed to do so?
