During the summer, people were calling for Aurier, Dier, Alderwiereld, Sissoko and Ndombele to be sold. Now a team with all those starting is vying to be top of the league and expected to beat Palace away. We were much too gloomy in the summer and a bit too optimistic now.
Gotta say that I am surprised by the negativity on here today. We drew AND lost matches like this in recent history under Pochettino and Maureen. A draw is not a bad result. Palace played better in the second half it is too simplistic to say we threw 2 points away...imho that is stooping to talksports level of analysis. Everton had won one game in their previous 5 yet beat chelsea who have only dropped points to us in the past 6 games. If you do not win then you need to grab a point and we did that, maintaining an 11 match unbeaten premier league run...and ensuring we have still only lost 2 matches in all competitions in 22 matches this season. We aint going to win the league...NO ONE thought that was a possibility before the season started and it is ridiculous to act as though we can after just 30% of the games have been played. No one thought we would get top 4...the wisdom was liverpool/city then chelsea/united. We are in the quarter finals of the league cup (after beating chelsea), the last 32 of the EL and 2nd in the table yet you'd never know it from reading this. Top 4 and a cup would be a fantastic season. I ain't a fan of Maureen but the criticism today is ott imho
I'm normally a fan of massive change but I think that is overdone in football. Much easier to improve players than buy better ones. Mourinho's signings are the usual random mixture of good, bad and indifferent so far, but it's too early to tell for most of them.
I thought & think we will make top 4, but I am not projecting todays game on to the rest of the season I am talking about today. Today we started with a first half of the right tactics and then messed up the second half. I don't think that's negative I thinks that shows how positively I have viewed Joses game management so far. Did he get it wrong or did the players let him down? I am not sure, either way it was disappointing.
I don't get why you are addressing that to me I have never advocated massive change I merely misjudged the quality or maybe the potential of a very lack lustre Ndombele as that was all I had seen of him. He has improved out of sight and I have changed my mind, again based on what I saw.
In fairness I was talking about lots of posts, not just yours. I think that sometimes fans forget to take the opposition players into account. Palace played well in the second half and that happens to change game plans. At the end of the day if Lloris doesn't make a mistake we would have won, but they could say the same re their keeper. Their crowd booster their team and they played well. This was not like the west ham match which showed a week mentality
Another weekend ends with Spurs top of the league. Some of you are too pessimistic Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur
Could've done with the extra couple of points, though Mainly to shut up the Manc lurkers on our Twitter feed...
A team with our ambitions and stature should not be considering a point at Palace as a good point mate and I think that’s why some aren’t happy. We should be disappointed with getting just a point against a team who in stature and quality is smaller and weaker. It feels even worse that we were in the lead and threw it away. Lloris ****ed up - ironically not long after a lot of us have said he’s cut out the mistakes and back to his best - but our tactics to sit back in the second half when we were very comfortable in possession in the first is partly why we dropped 2 points. Results like this undo the tough work we do against the top sides like City/ Utd etc. It’s also often results like this, West Ham, Everton etc that at the end of the season we look back and say “if only”. We’ve already now just seen that a win would’ve seen us go 2 points clear of Liverpool going into our match at Anfield. It’s frustrating and for me personally I can’t take much joy out of dropping 2 points against a team that we’re better than.
The players SHOULD be disappointed...we as fans need to support, encourage and carry them while intimidating the opposition. But the bigger point is you mofos are getting a lecture from me about being positive
Btw...who in their right minds praises our players for cutting out mistakes ffs? Has my 10 years on here been completely fecking ignored???
Correct. "We should be disappointed with getting just a point against a team who in stature and quality is smaller and weaker." Unfair, and arrogant. "It’s also often results like this, West Ham, Everton etc that at the end of the season we look back and say “if only”. We’ve already now just seen that a win would’ve seen us go 2 points clear of Liverpool going into our match at Anfield." More or less. Today shows me that Spurs are not PL champions elect, and that Jose has been unable to sort out a fundamental on-pitch problem that means there will be many more PL games this season exactly like today (regardless of the result at FT) .
Fans can support and encourage as well as be disappointed with an outcome. The only positive from today really is that Liverpool didn’t capitalise on our result.
