Winks was excellent tonight...I genuinely do not get the criticism he gets...not a dig at you just do not understand it.
If we beat Inter and Barca beat PSV, they will be guaranteed top anyway, so that may give us the faintest hope of winning in Barca, we do now need to beat Inter 1-0 or by 2 clear goals for the head to head record to be better.
I'm not Winks' biggest fan but agree, he had a good game tonight. His criticism stems from generally offering nothing on the pitch, too often he's a passenger. Frequent back and side passes and a lack of urgency to get the ball forward/ assist the AMs. Today he done the latter though, brought it forward and made some neat passes.
Barca are already through whatever happens. If Inter beat PSV then we would have to beat Inter with a better record and Barcelona to go through. It only matters that Inter drew with Barca if we do too and they draw with PSV. Ideally Barca need to lose to PSV as then if we beat Inter by any score we will go through by beating Barca.
I thought Winks was solid too - and thought Ben Davies was much improved, particularly 2nd half. Still a way to go to get back to the level of 17/18, mind you.
Gazza with another solid display, couldn't do anything about the goal, no keeper could. But his cruyff turn was slick and he made two important saves. He has to be knocking on Poch's door in the morning and asking "Do I really deserve to be dropped when we face Palace?!".
Sorry but his first 20 mins was the worst from a spurs player since David Bentley put in THAT performance when we LOST to the goons in the league cup in 2010. Aurier was constantly out of position, had a terrible first touch and crossed to no one
Wow they don't half put you through the wringers our beloved Spurs. Absolutely dominated that but our end product was poor on so many occasions and to be fair the PSV GO and defenders were superb. As others have mentioned our FB's justcarent champions league level. Rose is but he's always injured and Trippier is a WB not a RB. Thought Harry Winks was our MOTM tonight he never hid and was relentless. He was so much more positive in his passing too. Lucas Moura was superb, god knows why he was taken off as Son was dog **** all evening. Llorente did well when he came on too and Davinson was excellent again. I think we will beat Inter and if Barca put out a second string against us who knows but it's looking like Europa.
Well that was fun, wasn't it? Never in doubt, of course... Stupid, amateurish start and then endless attempts to either run through the middle of a packed defence or cross it to one isolated man. I've never been so relieved to see Llorente get on the pitch. The initial lineup was pretty unbalanced and a lot of players seemed to have no idea where they were playing. Eriksen ended up dropping deep a lot and had an absolute stinker as a result. One of his worst games for us. We won in the end and that's all that matters. On to the next must win game.
To me the result never was in doubt as I posted after the Wolves match but if we don't qualify by losing to Inter then we have to ask the question "Are we improving in the CL with Poch?"
Weird game on a weird night. We had loads of the ball and so many opportunities but managed to **** most of them up. Still, we kept going and finally won a CL game. Unfortunately, a late goal from Inter has probably done for us, apart from the EL. If that's where we end up, I'd like us to give it a go, but first up, let's beat Inter and see if we can't pressurise them into a loss against PSV? Winksy was very good, as was Lucas. Finally, a game in which we used Llorente correctly to turn a game. It's only taken most of his time with us. Sonny had one of those nights when he seemed to have his boots on the wrong feet and Aurier just had the wrong feet on. Christian Eriksen proved that dropping him deeper isn't the future, we definitely need to buy a new midfield. Still, it's the sort of late win that lifts fans, players, managers and Brian. Glad I went...and **** you, Mark van Bommel.
Spurs love messing with us. Should have scored so many more rather than waiting for a late comeback. I'm still exhausted tbh.
