Maybe, just perhaps we can see a glimmer of a revival in our fortunes. Can anyone who 'watched' the game, tell me why Luke W was not prefered to Toto? Having seen his desperate attempt at scoring an own goal, I can only think Wolfie is not fit. With two important season defining games ahead, both at home, against teams we have to beat to be in contention at end of season, we will know much more about our players' and indeed our Manager's convictions. 4 pts from next 6 I would be happy. 6 pts, ecstatic. If we lose both, then that's it as far as I am concerned. Old Gaffer has spoken. He has written, he has demanded answers, his loyalty to a Club he has supported for 60 years, during these extraordinary times, is on the line.
The cynic in me thinks Wolfenden was dropped following his comments post-Swindon, when he made references about the lack of instructions and on-pitch philosophy. Then again, like many players, he didn’t play that well against Swindon and he’s not been in good form. Toto had a solid game against Burton, as did most of our players. Regarding the match, it was fairly dull I thought. The first half was mostly two sides lumping long balls to each other, although I thought there was generally more purpose and trying to get forwards from us. The stale possession in our own half was less obvious, but we still struggled to carve out goalscoring opportunities. Our goal was well worked, but was from a Judge free kick. I thought we might have been lucky to get all three points, as Burton would’ve surely put one of their several good chances away with a decent finisher. After our poor recent form, any win would’ve done us - particularly against a poor Burton side. I’m hoping the win gives us a bit of confidence going into a tricky double header against Peterborough and Sunderland. We’ve got to get this monkey off our back when we come up against the bigger names in this division. Four points out of six would do we fine, but if we can’t beat either of those sides - and Lambert continues his record of failing to out-think an opposition manager with a comparable squad strength, then play offs might look beyond us again this season.
I'm not overly optimistic about the next couple of games, whilst its positive we have some of our better players coming back, we've too many who aren't match fit and had too many disruptions in the past year. If we get something for in the next couple of games we'll have to scrap for it, i can't imagine they'll be polished performances
I’m with nuggets on this one. I think Woolfy was dropped for speaking out of turn about our shambolic defending as a team (Luke Chambers in particular, take a bow).
Or maybe there's an imminent transfer? Wouldn't surprise me if we've received a bid for him...and probably only 1-2m
Lambert is right up there as the worse (man) manager we’ve ever had.I remember Hurst being slated for far less in terms of throwing players under the bus which is undoubtedly what’s happened to Woolfenden.
I recall quite a few of us quite excited about him. Gone off the boil, lost form, not nurtured or encouraged by Lambert, and clearly up for grabs. A real shame.
He talked a good game when he first arrived and seemed to want to build bridges and reunite the Club and fans. But there was no “new manager bounce” and he was rewarded for taking us down with a whimper by having his contract extended.Seems to have lost all motivation and direction since. Now a man on borrowed time?
It may have been the effects of C 19 but the last interview he gave i thought he sounded flat, and drained, I don't think he will walk and his long contract would be expensive to pay off so I think he will stay. Nobody who's any good will come here so if there was a vacancy it might be someone who needs a start in management, Dyer anyone ? But it won't improve a squad filled with ageing, overated, posers, last chancers, and youth.
