Bit hard to look at Coutinho as ther last player (he was) because of the pandemic. Maybe people misunderstood what I said. I said sell them at their peak but meant the peak value point for Liverpool Football Club, not the peak of their powers. More often than not, you'll get top money for a player that is a few months, maybe a year past his peak because you don't know they've passed their peak at that point. However, the club have a lot more information than us to judge it. This fits the argument for Torres for example.
I get what you're saying but clubs were still spending (relatively) big during the pandemic. I don't think we've ever been a stepping stone club which would fit with the buy them cheap, sell them for triple strategy. Coutinho was actually an anomaly if you look at who and how we've sold. Thank goodness btw because that was the catalyst for what followed.
Sadio Mane: Senegal forward hints at Liverpool stay as he promises 'special' answer over his future. Sadio Mane says he will give a "special" answer over his Liverpool future after Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid. Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been linked with Mane, 30, who enters the final year of his contract in June. However, Liverpool are hopeful of retaining the Senegal forward who has already won the Africa Cup of Nations, Carabao Cup and FA Cup this term. "I think the answer I can give you now is I feel very good," said Mane. "I am fully focused on Saturday's game, that is the answer I must give before the final. But come back to me on Saturday and I will give you the best answer you want to hear, for sure. It's special. I will give you all you want to hear then. So because we're not getting Mbappe, Mané is being offered a similar bumper deal, will be the new sporting director, assistant coach and in charge of all transfers That will be special news.
TBH, if the tabloids are anything to go by (they're not) then I'd be a pissed off if I were Mane. Loads of talk about Salah's contract and his demands but not a peep about Mane. If you go by what they're saying, he's unappreciated. Obviously, he is appreciated and I'm confident contract negotiations would have been taking place just like with Salah. Isn't Bobby out of contract at the same time too? I don't think we'll renew his, I'm certain he'll be off this summer.
Some really good predictive text in this one All three are out of contract next year. I want them all to stay for ever and ever. I think Bobby will be given a year extension, Klopp loves him and so do the fans, and the other two are a mystery. We won't want any of them leaving on a free and while we may say that's there's no sentiment in football, there is fairness. Look at the Henderson and Milner extensions.
