Every time I read that we've been linked with a midfielder, I fear that Will Hughes' departure is inching closer. Sampdoria midfielder and Norwegian international Morten Thorsby. https://insidefutbol.com/2021/07/16/watford-contact-sampdoria-over-midfielder/518365/
Seems unlikely we would spend that much on a Championship player or that Blackburn could afford Gray’s wages .
The Armstrong deal doesn't make any sense. We are not in the market now for an expensive forward, pretty sure all the ins in that department are done for now. We need to get rid of 3 forwards at least so only if more leave will we look again at other forward options. The midfield, sounds like we are close to another midfielder which I think means Hughes is close to the exit if that deal gets over the line.
WatfordFC have joined the race to sign Chelsea midfielder & Nathaniel’s brother, Trevoh Chalobah. He spent last season on-loan at French side Lorient where he played 29 times & scored twice.
Twitter photo of Hughes signing. No official confirmation, it could be photoshoped from his original signing, you never know these days.

Life can be so confusing... Either we have 'stepped up' our chase for Morten Thorsby... https://www.givemesport.com/1725873...s-set-to-step-up-their-pursuit-of-serie-a-ace Or we haven't been chasing him at all ... https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/19463554.watford-not-interested-sampdorias-morten-thorsby/
The Director of football has “played down the link” so probably keeping an interest but not the only only option .
Nottingham Forest are waiting on Watford to sign an attacking player, which would allow Phillip Zinckernagel to leave. Not sure where that one has come from;
That was mentioned a while back - around the time the 'Will-Hughes-won't-sign-a-new-contract-and-is-off-to Newcastle-or-Villa' rumours started. I think it's only a loan deal for him though.
