    Newcastle 17.00 All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier
ORNATE. I am keeping the faith with this speedball who seems to barely stay 5f. His top speed rating is 100, higher than anything else in the race; and that was against Battaash at Goodwood last summer (when finishing only a neck behind Glass Slippers, effectively at level weights). He was just touched off in this race 2 years ago and his only other race at this track since was when 3rd to Caspian Prince in June. Venturous (2/1 fav tomorrow) was a neck in front of Ornate in that race, receiving 10 lbs from Ornate. Disappointed he is as low as 6/1 given it's 20 runs since his last win but this could be his turn. He has had only 5 wins in the last 2 years, each time ridden by P Dennis who rides him tomorrow. I am really waiting for him to race over 5f at Catterick on fast ground but he is in with a chance here if he can hold on to the lead with less weight than he has been carrying of late

1:00 The forums favourite corinthian has taken time out from dentistry to ride Lust For Glory. She is a horse I like and I think she is a better horse than those in opposition here. Her chase run last time was good and she finished further back than likely given she tried to put it up to Messire Des Obeaux. I am surprised she isn't the favourite and I think she will win nicely today.

At the ant, sorry decs, stage he also had Dame de Compiegne entered in this heat. Cor blimey am I looking forward to her chasing bow.

Lust for Glory was bought out of the Grech/Parkin dispersal sale for a whopping £235k. She hasn’t won since but hopefully can remedy that malady this afternoon.

The great man’s Tweed Skirt (that’s the name of his filly in the bumper at the same meet, incidentally, not a new piece of apparel he’s recently purchased) is also of interest today. Very nicely bred by Presenting and the dam was Listed placed in bumpers and Grade 2 placed over hurdles for old boy, Alan King. And I must say, team. Tweed Skirt, what a lovely name for a filly.

Would you back anything of the Lieutenant’s at the moment Sir Barney, given the yard form?

Wouldn’t back either of his runners today as I think both are plenty short enough (currently 6/4 and 5/6). The fact that they are though shows the market still has confidence in the yard.

Certainly wouldn’t be put off though if I really liked one (at the prices) from Seven Barrows – and let’s not forget, at the time of writing, his last runner was a winner.

I see at the weekend we are ‘Pertemps Qualifying’ again. Champagne Platinum a possible. Though surely if he goes connections will be looking for that elusive 6th place rather than a runaway win. Nudge, nudge and all that…

Yard form? You aren’t believing the rubbish the great man put out in the media about horses running below their level?

Do those minuses at the end (eg Chasamax -57) represent a drop in form Nass?

Yes a positive is running above their RPR and a negative is running below their RPR.

I think he’s had 3 winners since Shishkin from something like 30 runners? Well below his 5 year average

Oh its not brilliant but he is ticking over, its not as if he isn't having any winners or horses running well. 2 winners and 6 2nds from 21 runners this month isn't terrible. If his two win today (being pretty short in the markets) it will be 4 from 23 which will be close % wise to his record throughout the winter.

    MONTH WINS RUNS % 2ND 3RD 4TH TOTAL EARNINGS £1 STAKE
    January 2021 2 21 10 6 0 3 £20,330 -13.09
    December 2020 15 74 20 14 8 9 £254,426 +18.46

If only we could eliminate those that are clearly running well below form, for whatever reason.

As I have said before Nass, that is an exceptional data mining tool you have there
