Hamilton's taking a new ICE so that's a 10 place grid drop. Seems strange they're not just taking 1 new of everything, I can only assume it's cost related. Just looking at the table ot looks like Renault and RB are about to run out of exhaust allocation as well (8)
This should be interesting. Looks like Ham is the fastest out there this weekend (eye test in FP1, he just looked comfortable) but starting somewhere between 10-13 probably. I'm being mad and voting for him to make a sensational win here, reminding us of his GP2 win at the same circuit. Think the track will work well for him and Bottas. Let's see.
Sorry Charles, I just ruined your chances by voting for you. Hopefully this post will therefore work as a reverse curse.
I think it's just an attempt to minimize the penalty rather than cost, but sticking your car mid pack is a risk in itself. Might be better replacing the whole thing and staying clear of potential start chaos.
I went Max, but if it all goes mammaries up, I can't claim the jinx on this one, they'll have done it to themselves with the one-off livery.
I will probably go Hamilton. Merc don't usually get involved in gamsmanship in FP, I don't understand why Hamilton has nailed FP1 and 2. Might they have tweaked the engine a little? Hamilton was interested in the time Bottas was doing, why?. Have Merc been under performing to preserve the engine and have they decided to let the new ICU show what it can really do. Is this what Totto means by 'get aggressive'.
I didn't watch it but reading the reports there is a suggestion that qually will be dry, if green. If that is the case there would be nothing to gain from a wet practise unless tomorrow is wet. A merc gamble on the weather I suspect.
But on the other hand, surely a risk not to run at all? And what's the down side of doing a few laps to get used to those conditions and see what the optimal set up is? Seems odd to me.
Are the commentators suggesting that the white line all round track is the track limits? It's usually just monitored on a couple of corners but they seem to be saying white line on whole track is enforced limit?
Ha, Ham with that lap making me eat my words. Normal service resumes. Love the guy. Just booked tickets for Silverstone and Hungary next year as I'm worried it will be his last year.
