Yeah I read yesterday that the only reason that Wembley didn't get the games in Dublin for the Groups is because Wembley already have games those days, but weirdly/luckily enough it gets the last 16 game. How fortuitous for England.
Just as well, we don't want a repeat of the England fans rampaging through Dublin and causing another £5 worth of damage.
What's the point of having 10,000 fans fly to another country when the game could be played locally? Fannies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57051804
I would like to think that when Southgate prunes his squad he gets rid of the out-of-form players and the ones who have hardly kicked a ball in months but he has named because they are always mentioned in the media, e.g. Jack Grealish and Jordan Henderson. Unless he is intending to play wing-backs then Trent Alexander Arnold is surplus to requirements as he cannot defend. Seventeen goals not enough to get Patrick Bamford in the squad (does not work hard enough) but clearly they need Marcus Rashford to make sure everyone gets fed. No room for James Maddison either. I think with Pope out, he has to go with Henderson between the sticks as Pickford has proved too prone to bad decisions. If Kane does not limp off injured in the first game, then this must be the best chance Southgate will ever have to win the European Championship. It is effectively a home tournament. Our Group D matches are all at Wembley. If we win the Group, our ‘Round of 16’ match will be at Wembley (otherwise Copenhagen). Our Quarter Final will be in St Petersburg or Rome and the Semi Finals and Final are at Wembley. When we have lost the opener to Croatia 1-0 and ground out a bore draw with the Jocks, we can start making other plans for 26th June onwards...
I reckon a charity sweepstake is in order. Once I get 24 names, I'll get my youngest to do the draw. Who's in?
Me, pal I may go to one of Spain's group games in Sevilla and might chuck in an official matchday programme to the prize! Can you imagine the scenes of the person winning that?!
Some odds for the Euros: To win England 4/1 France 5/1 Belgium 13/2 Spain 7/1 Italy 8/1 Germany 8/1 Portugal 10/1 Holland 12/1 Denmark 25/1 Croatia 30/1 Scotland 250/1 Top goalscorer Kane 9/2 Lukaku 6/1 Mbappe 8/1 Ronaldo 9/1 Depay 16/1 Gnabry 16/1 Benzema 16/1 Morata 20/1 Griezmann 20/1 Christie 200/1 I like this bet; Kane,Benzema & Ronaldo all to score 4 or more goals each 20/1
That is not a bad bet right enough. The only drawback is there is a possibility that either France or Portugal won't get out their group. It is a mental group.
