Well it had to happen sooner or later. I hope whatever formula the EFL works out is fair to all fans, but I don't suppose it will be. ST holders, get ready to lose your seats. If you want to go to the game, you'll sit where you're told from now on.
I imagine they will put big X stickers on 2 out of every 3 seats and tell fans those seats are closed. Maybe if you're a couple or a family they will let you sit together, but again with empty seats to the sides, and presumably in front and behind you too. In theory, doing that they might be able to get 10,000 fans back inside the Valley - all spread evenly around all the blocks (including the Jimmy Seed stand), not clustered in the seats that give the best views. I doubt whether away fans will be allowed back, as they will be much more difficult to control. Also having no away fans minimises the chance of crowd trouble. Any fans at all in the ground will improve the zero atmosphere we have at the moment, but many Clubs will have to deal with a lot of disappointed supporters, depending on what selection factors they use. It isn't going to be a problem for me personally, as I assume Charlton will be playing as tenants of RD next season and I won't buy a ticket if that is the case. But I feel sorry for Charlton fans who do want to attend, and will probably find the experience nothing like what they remember it to be.
I have heard that because of the new rise in Coronavirus infections, plans to get some restricted numbers of fans into football grounds have been halted. If this is true it's a severe blow to many small lower league Clubs.
