So I've killed my second mondeo diesel in two years. First one the oil filter popped, spewed oil all over the road and destroyed the engine.
Second one was a couple of days ago after driving through what can only be described as a six inch deep puddle dead slow the engine sucked in probably only a tiny bit of water and fuked the engine. I mean, what car designer thinks it's a good idea to have an air intake low down on the front bumper? Insurance have written it off.
No doubt the payout will be nowhere near the retail value of the car.

So I've decided to get a small van, vw caddy size.

Anyone had experience of running a small van?

Looking for something cheap, economical and easy to look after as I'll be doing my own servicing, brakes etc..

Will most likely have £2k to spend.

Any recommendations and any to avoid?

    Cheers

I had a Vauxhall Combo, it was ancient, 125k mileage when I bought it (for £1500). It was a great drive, and very reliable. I only used to put about a tenner a week diesel in it, the tax was a bummer at £250 a year though. All told, highly recommended.

    No mate.
If I won the lotto I'd get an A-Team Van then hire some lookalikes of the cast and drive around NCL firing cabbages out of home made rocket launchers at criminals to help out the good guys.
I'd also hire Hasselhoff to drive me around in KITT too.

Just bought a pair of them fella, much more reliable.

Don't buy a Transit Courier or any Ford. We run a number of vans and the Fords have been **** on reliability. The older transits were good. The newer ones, ****e. We had to have a new engine put in one within 3 months. For the smaller ones - don't buy a Berlingo! We bought one as a run around, nothing but bother. When we took it in the guy said people are in with these all the time.

Caddy is obviously good. Strangely enough my mate is an electrician and he has bought a Fiat Doblo. Ugly as **** but its been bulletproof. Have I just said an Italian vehicle is bulletproof?

Aye I was bit "are these gonna be a bit novelty never to be worn" but in the end I love my vans, love my Foo's, so just got a pair.

I've kept the box in the case they become an ornament in the man cave <laugh>
