Going to be a bit strange on Saturday having to wait until 5 30pm before our game starts and the fact it will be on the TV in other Countries but you can't get it here. Still it's another £32.5 grand in the coffers. The other thing I have noticed is the attention drawn to having a female Ref for this one and it being the first. Don't know about you but I couldn't really care less if it was a trained Gorilla as long as they do a good job. What sex they are is irrelevant. On to the important stuff which is the game and if we can win it. Brummies aren't ripping up trees in the league so I think it's fair to say we have a chance at least to win this one. It would be really good for us to go on a cup run for a change as long as we don't go out to some crap side in the end. This is the third away tie out of three. I think we just might do it you know. COYG
It seems that we're going to be short of some players because of Covid for the 3rd round Cup game. Schumacher has said that there will be some youngsters in our allotted nine Cup subs.
That rather weakens my belief that we could get a result. Of course, we don't know how many or who they are and I do believe we have some strength in depth now but we'll have to be at our best to beat a Championship side. Wouldn't want it to be two of the starting back three though.....
Since returning to training earlier in the week....Argyle have suffered two more positive Covid cases....but Schumacher says that he will still be able to put out a strong team. Maybe the latest Covid cases are back-room staff not players ?
One of the 3 Birmingham City centre backs who started their defeat by QPR on January 2nd has been recalled from loan by his parent club. They've brought in a 19 year old on loan from Manchester United but that's an awkward place to lose a player: so much depends on teamwork and organisation back there, which takes a while to build up.
There is a bit of cynicism going the rounds that two Argyle players will not be travelling because they're ear marked for Preston.....who might still be in the Cup if they don't lose at Cardiff on Sunday. Could they be Hardie and Mayor....probably idle chat...but spices up a dull weekend.
It would also be an awkward place for us if we lose to Covid either Scarr or Wilson from our defence...it's bad enough that Duracell Bunny Camara isn't playing.
Cooper, Grant, Gillesphey, Scarr, Bolton, Edwards, Mayor, Houghton, Randell, Hardie, Garrick. Subs Burton, Ennis, Lewis, Law, Pursall, Garside, Shirley, Issaka. No...Broom, Wilson or Jephcott...are they all Covid victims ?.....leaving us a little weak on the bench. Bolton makes his first start.
0-0...F/T (90mins) Birmingham four shots....NONE on target. Argyle 17 shots....3 on target. Birmingham have to play another 30 minutes with only 10 players. This will be an injustice if we don't win before 120 mins....penalties are just a lottery.
FULL TIME....0-1.......Great result Could someone remind me which team played in the CHAMPIONSHIP. Birmingham....7 shots.....NONE on target Argyle.....22 shots......6 on target. Corners they had 6....we had 10.
Geddon bheys. I will be honest and say I wasn't that confident but the boys dun good. Another payday in the bank and onwards we go.
Cruised it TBH. Far better side, made a multitude of chances without taking one. Then after all the near misses Ryan Law, who I always think of as defensive, broke down the left and did the simple, easy thing and smacked it across a rooted keeper I to the right side of the net from 25 yards. Helped of course we might as well have been at home with the racket the 2,900 Greens made. Red card might have been for a foul or deliberate handball but either way, irrelevant. We were far better throughout. Utterly sublime. No I'm not drunk.
