I'm late to the party but that was pretty much the perfect result / performance. It was complete domination from start to the finish, and it stemmed from Fabinho. What a footballer and is clearly so crucial to our play. His intelligence, his positioning, ball winning ability, is what helps us pen teams deep and allows us to sustain wave after wave of pressure. He and Thiago controlled the midfield with a lot of ease.

Thiago and Fabinho won the ball back a whopping 13 times vs Arsenal. (Thiago = 7, Fab = 6).

To put into context, Fabinho has the record this season of most possession wins in a single match (8).

In fairness you.could tell we targeted odengard and he coughed it up every time.

The other thing is despite the abuse thiago hasn't been sent off yet and hasnt made a bad tackle in a while

Think at the start the pace was getting to him, especially when coming back from injury. Def seems to have eased off a bit recently, I think also coincides with fact that he’s not the last line before defence anymore so not as much pressure on him to make the tackle at any cost.

as you say though once he is booked he eases off to make sure doesn’t get sent off.

    this, exactly.

not as many diving in from distance.

I do think he's not worth anything like the wages right now though. the total lack of any impact from this passing ability is nothing short of tragic.

the particular issue is that in the summer Klopp prioritised him instead of a Lovren replacement .

Or spend the lovern money on back up to robertson?

either way we were 1 short and didn't resolve that until jan 31.
