Been saying for last month or two, city look like the only team that’ll go and win 10 on the bounce and given the depth in strength they should be heavy favourites, even when they were down in 9th or so was all false as had couple games in hand. When you look at their form, 2 conceded in last 10 or so? Plenty of wins and a draw or two and chance to go top with their game in hand. Unlike united who yes have hit some good form, but united have sneaked some fortunate wins in last minute. City on other hand haven’t looked troubled in most of the games and won comfortably. Would surprise me if city don’t win it by 9 or more tbh.
And they never got a penalty today, tbf. Not that they deserved one, but that's not normally a consideration anyway.
Mweh... look at that top 6.. its a weird season for many reasons.... anyone calling any of those teams out of the running? Well.... Lot of swapping from 5th to 1st and back again to come.
City have gone from 8th to 2nd in less than a week and could end up top come Wednesday night. Tis a topsy turvy season. But the strikers do need to start scoring again, pronto
City always had games in hand. If we continue on our way we will be asking for winning 10 in a row to get near the top. Focus on 4th guys, do yourselves a favour. I'm actually now thinking we need to win the cl to get back in it.
Everyone needs to just calm down . We all knew the impact of the VvD injury and this was compounded when we lost Gomez. Matip was always a sick note. To have been top at Christmas should be the only shocker here!! I could understand the moans and groans if they were complaining about starting the season with 2 fit CB’s and Matip. Reality is that this is the gamble that all at the club got wrong. It really highlights how far away we are from the big money boys of the league.
And finally, some perspective. Over the last 5 years, Utd’s net Annual spend has been 78m. Ours has been 18m. So, Utd have spend FOUR TIMES as much as us over a FIVE YEAR period to obtain their 34% possession yesterday. 34% possession Let that sink in. City have spent over £100m per year but at least they look like a team I’d pay to watch. Perspective is critical when we look at it, it is the reason that we do not have the depth in the squad. In reality, what Klopp has done a nothing short of miraculous.
Another frustrating result where we struggled to put away 1-2 half chances that we had. It's a shame because I thought we played some really good football at times - mostly through Thiago and Shaq. What annoyed me most is that we didn't get them on the ball enough. I have made plenty of excuses for the front 3 but none today - they should be well rested, and they had two technical midfielders getting the ball up to them in good positions. But they wasted it. Mane and mostly Salah will bear the brunt of the criticism but Bobby is biggest issue in the attack. Lack of goals isn't the problem when his link up play is fine - the reality is, he's killing attacks regularly. Simple passes, flicks and tricks just aren't coming off and if it isn't working, then there is nothing to mask the lack of goals. Some positives - Fabinho is world class and this is the season where people realise his importance on the team. Magnificent footballer and I can't wait to get him back into midfield. Allison proves yet again why he's one of the best (if not the best) keepers in the world. Thiago is just pure class and he was so threatening every time he got on the ball. Shaq had some really nice touches as well but looked knackered by the end of it.
To have so many of our creative / attacking threats not firing, all at the same time, would imply the system is the issue. Unless Klopp changes the system to a 4231 and we go all out OR we buy a centre back, we're going to have to accept this unit the end of the season. I know a 2-3 winning game run will change the landscape again and this season is far from over, but it does feel like we're missing out on the title this season unless something drastic happens.
Disappointing to see people giving in so easily, yeah we're not great at the moment but like a lot of teams we have a chance. I'll live in hope still. We have a very good squad that is probably only second to City's so we shouldn't really be complaining.
This is true. But to trot out that financial argument each time our team is not functioning on the pitch is not that helpful. Of course we haven’t spent at City’s level or even United’s but does that suddenly make the attacking trio score fewer goals ? We run away last season with the title with that expenditure. No one is saying Klopp didn’t do a good job. As to the possession, we all know that passing at the back for long periods killing time counts as possession. It never gives you the picture of who deserves to win the match. Teams beaten 3-0 in the first 25 minutes end up with 60%+ possession. We had chances to score but at 0-0 they had 2 very good chances at the end which Allison saved almost miraculously. The reality is that we have dropped from title certainties at the start of the season (according to most pundits and bookies) to CL place challengers. We dropped from the top of the table to fourth in only 5 days. It is that kind of a season and we desperately need our trio to score again.
I agree with all of that apart from a bit in the last paragraph. We were never title certainties - it was always going to be difficult, and the unusual level of injuries just made it even more so. What pundits and bookies say is irrelevant.
Yep, we've been incredible for 2-3yrs but a bit of a blip and people are writing them off #youllneverwalkalone
Thiago made more interceptions [7] and completed more take-ons [5] than any other Liverpool player vs. Man Utd. No player made more tackles [3] or created more chances [2] than the Spaniard.
The guy is just pure class. Still doesnt look fully fit but hopefully that will come in time. Get Fabinho or Hendo as the number 6, with Thiago just ahead. That would be lethal.
how is it not relevant? If we had their budgets, do you think we’d have had Fab and Matip as back up or that we wouldn’t have more attackers to rotate due to fitness and form? It’s absolutely relevant imo. I accept it too, I don’t want to Just ‘trot it out’ as an excuse....it’s just a reality and this year that reality is biting us. Frankly, I’d be more concerned if I were a Utd fan after spending all of that money and then playing like a richer Burnley. What I don’t really like is the constant whinging about a poor run over, what? 4 league games without taking the big picture into consideration. With the big picture in mind, we have been exceptional. Period.
I tend to forget how good dribbling he is. Think of him being deep and playing passes but on the ball he has a few tricks to go past players. Was one moment in first half where did a little step over, dragged ball and slipped past Fred like wasn’t there. He used to be far more attacking midfielder in early barca days so I guess he’s got it from that which is good to see
There is a bit on sky titled - Analysis - why aren’t Liverpool scoring goals. I’ll save you all the trouble, there is zero analysis on why we aren’t scoring goals. Instead of just a summary of in last 3 games we’ve scored 0 goals despite front 3 not being injured, only missing Jota and if we scored our expected goals we’d have taken 7 out of 9 from last 3 games. So no actually analysis on why we aren’t scoring, how missing players may affect our style etc
