What chance have we in the Champions League with finishing like that, we could have played for 10 hours tonight and we still would not have scored
Not sure if Klopp was forced not to use Thiago or Shaq from the off but the lack of bollocks has cost us again. Play a brexit midfield yet again the dross teams and it’s no surprise we struggle to create through teams. With that said, we still did have chances to score but the attackers really struggled. The shining light is Thiago - he made a difference straight away and it was only until he came on did we start to cut Newcastle open a few times. And he has a leap on him!
Yep. This is a team decimated of quality options. That we are where we are is impressive. On to the next game and watch Thiago play.
Just to add to this - the players do look tired and that could be leading to their performances, so I will cut them some slack.
we are still favourites over City, just ! The consolation we have is that we can still equal our points total of last season...by winning every match left to play. We nearly did it last season why not this?
Phillips is a ****-or-bust defender who would be fine in a team that's under the cosh a lot. He's not the type to suit our style of play, but we have few options atm.
Phillips isn’t good enough to be playing for us. But it’s not his fault that he is starting. All he can do is try his best. I just hope that we have a CB lined up for January
Not sure if he’s injured or fatigued, but hendo needs a rest. He had improved his progressive passing this year but he looked really stale against Fulham, West Brom and Newcastle - trying to force the issue (which is commendable) but the long aimless punts won’t work against the agricultural type defence
Agree we can do nothing about having to play him and he's not utter **** but he's limited, too limited, just felt we got away with it a bit in the end with him. He looked nervous the whole game to me. If we don't get some defensive players in we're our own worst enemy this season. At least one ffs
Ive noticed this too his last couple of games. Been frustrating to watch at times. The whole team today for the 1st half hour maybe looked out of ideas and were telegraphing everything. But... Salah and Co won't be as wasteful again... It's unlikely at least lol
Not my words but it really does sum up the fundamental issue in our whole style and set up as a result of the injuries... ———————————————— Doesn't seem to get much attention but the loss of Van Dijk and Gomez has been far, far more damaging to Liverpool's build-up play than it has been in a defensive sense. Takes so much longer to progress up the pitch without them. Knock-on impact of not being able to play Fabinho in midfield is a massive factor too. That's not the primary reason why Liverpool didn't win tonight – they had the chances to do so – but it's been a problematic recurring theme in numerous games this season. No slight on Nat Phillips or Rhys Williams – they've filled in as well as could be expected of them in really difficult circumstances. But the absence of VVD/Gomez (and now Matip too) completely changes the way Liverpool are able to construct attacks from the back. It's not just the distribution of VVD/Gomez, but not having their recovery pace means it's pretty much impossible to play the same high line and continually pin teams back as much as Liverpool used to – which has been so central to the team's identity for so long. Thiago returning should help significantly, but not sure it's realistic to expect him to suddenly solve this issue by himself while the centre-back situation remains so makeshift and unstable. Last couple of points: no VVD (and Matip) massively limits Liverpool's threat from attacking set-pieces. And not having Jota, who can score a goal out of nothing when the main front three aren't quite at it, further exacerbates the problem. In short, injuries suck. End of thread.
I did go onto say that we still created enough to win the game. It may have been worded badly but the point is that our whole build up play is suffering and we need the midfield to help with that
Leeds smacked 5 away against West Brom when we couldn't break them down. We couldn't break Newcastle down, either. It's frustrating and frankly worrying. Palace was Palace, but they were a bogey side not two seasons ago and so that result sent us soaring. But since then it's like we've totted up the goal difference and decided to sit on it. I have no idea what's going on, but we're in a rut and right now I can't see us getting out of it. As for Salah, where's his head at?
