Aurier was told to be next to Mane all game no matter what, Maureen sacrificed any attacking options might have provided in order to man mark Mane. I'd be surprised if Aurier was ever more than 6ft away from Mane at any point, be more surprised if he got out of his own half during the game. And fairs fair, Aurier is a quick and strong player. So Mane was always going to find this game difficult. Would have interesting if Salah and Mane has switched sides at some point.
was their new lb injured? to drop him for a defensive left full would say it all about mourinho. for.me mane is better at holding the ball up but his shooting has gone to pot. salah cannot hold the ball up at all. he just doesn't protect it in general play. I would have rathered jota right side and salah and firmino in the middle for last 20 there. but hey. we left the locker bare there with 2 back and spurs still couldn't score. they only have themselves to blame as they ran son and knee into the ground closing down as a 2 with no expectation of hurting us. Sissoko wide right again says it all about mourinho
Thought Virgil Van Williams had another 8/10. Apart from that one header he got under, he won every other one, especially against Kane, and that interception and pass deserved better than a pass back to their goalie by Mo. Jones - still young and learning, but I wouldn't swap him for Foden, whom I rate very, very highly. Just watch us go to Palace on Saturday morning and be ****e now - because we've told ourselves we are ****e away from home on Saturday mornings...
yepp, these two youngsters look very promising and the recent injuries could mean much more gametime for them this season
Even without injuries, I fail to see a better attacking midfielder in our squad than Jones currently. He's clearly ahead of Keita and Chamberlain at this point.
Morning chaps and what a fine morning it is to with even the sun shining . Might need to watch the highlights later to see how different it looks after the event .........and sober
Having an argument with a friend. My take is Spurs had one very good chance to take the lead and that was the Berg guy chance. I do not get why they keep counting the Harry Kane miss yet it was a continuation of the same play in the context of it was after the corner given when Fab cleared Berg chance. Who saw it any different ?
I thought he played well too. I thought they all did - thoroughly deserved win, and listening to Mourinho bleating about it was comical.
I laughed when Im saw that one >laugh> An excellent display, bar some below-par finishing. Always good to see that **** with his gob in a sling
They had chances, but we had more. I don't get why people say it was a strong defensive performance by Spurs when only some weak finishing by us prevented the game being well beyond them despite their opportunities. If they had won by virtue of those chances it would have been robbery, but no doubt it would have been called a José "masterclass" again. It was also funny hearing pundits' reaction to his "best side lost" nonsense. None of them had the nerve to tell him to grow up.
You've hit on something which has been bothering me for weeks. I don't like the continued referral by JK (and others) to fixture congestion and player tiredness. I'm not saying it isn't a factor, but tiredness can be mental as well as physical and I think they can talk themselves into it and make it worse. They looked tired against Fulham, but not last night. You always have more energy for something when you're enjoying it, and success brings that. The fixtures are here to stay, so I think the best way to deal with it is to accept that and get on with it rather than feel hard done by.
you are right, and honestly if that goes in we were losing that game as we were just playing in front of a reasonably comfortable spurs. but it didn't go in as alisson stood up tall and made a small target for bergwein to hit. small margins but he does really stand up and force the forward to go do the business all the time and while its not a save it is still good keeping.
