Just woke to read of the appointment. Been a while since l've have a good feeling about the club. Can enjoy the day now. Great stuff.
Enjoyed listening to the interview. I'm keeping an open mind and will fully support him. We shouldn't expect any miracles.
Happy it isn’t Dim Tim, but in all honesty would have preferred Moore, but I suppose in our current situation beggars can’t be choosers, Will give him time and backing and hope he can reproduce some of the miracle work he did at them down the road.
Gosh, in that interview, he had good answers to the questions and not just the usual cliches that most managers would trot out. He comes across as very intelligent and you can see why the Board would have rated him when they spoke to him.
It was meant to happen. He went to Rangers to do his apprenticeship before coming across to the real Rangers, the Queens Park Rangers! Welcome Mark Warburton. Sincerely hope we enjoy your stay.
Me Too!!!! It seemed natural, logical and very genuine. Basic and practical stuff with no fireworks. I was also very surprised to hear that he watched so many of our matches in the 70's. He well paraphrased the expectations of the owners regarding devloping FFP contstraints, developing youth, etc. I sincerely wish him many succeses!
Just a question. If he is as he appeared on the interview, what went wrong at Brentford? A club that is progressing in the right direction with a new stadium. Surely he should still be there enjoying that success with a serious PL push in the next few seasons? I do join in the positivity but this question is nagging away.
Because the club’s owner wanted to run the team on ‘moneyball’ principles and Warburton didn’t agree. From Wikipedia: On 10 February 2015, an article in The Times claimed Warburton would be replaced as manager at the end of the 2014–15season.[61] A week later, a club statement confirmed that Warburton, assistant David Weir and Sporting Director Frank McParland would be leaving Brentford at the end of the 2014–15 season, citing the trio's differences with owner Matthew Benham's anticipated remodelling of the club's management structure,[62] which would include recruitment being based on mathematical modelling and statistics allied to normal scouting methods.[63] The Hounslow Chronicle later dubbed the saga "Warburtongate".[64] Ahead of Brentford's playoff campaign in May 2015, Warburton revealed the truth about his departure, saying "I think the manager has to pick the team and have the final say, in my opinion. I think there's going to be a much greater emphasis on mathematical modelling than currently. There are certain aspects which I think have worked well at this football club, but Matthew's the owner and the board have made a decision".[65] Between the outbreak of the news and the end of the 2014–15 season, Warburton was linked with the managerial jobs at Leicester City,[66]Fulham,[67]Queens Park Rangers,[68]Aston Villa, Derby County,[69]Newcastle United, Leeds United and Norwich City.[70][71]
Thanks Stan, that is actually very reassuring. I texted a mate who is a Bees fan and his response re MW leaving was, "We have a methodology that's bigger than the manager. In the end he couldn't work that way." I did wonder whether a statement like that might come back to bite them in due course! Time will tell.
Nice to see a Londoner in charge again (although we said the same about a certain Mr Redcrap). Also good to hear him talking about the need to entertain the fans after such a woeful period of negative football. I'd be happy with a bit of possession and a few forward passes TBH
