Pearson in charge, ready to kick the crap out of any Watford player that doesn't give 200%, Chelsea and Spurs ready to take points off each other - this should make for an interesting game - plus Pogba is on the bench ready to **** it all up for us.
De Gea caused that defeat - first his blunder which then caused panic waves around the defence resulting in the penalty. As Alan Smith said in commentary, Watford made their luck. We were uncharacteristically wasteful with the ball in midfield and martial is back to his old, moody, broody self. Pogba played a good spell and added £1m to his asking price.
The attitude of the players really suck. Why didn't the players have any urgency until they were 2 down? Pogba should have gone in after half time. The worry for all United fans is that there are more teams like Watford than City. Very tough season ahead unless this ****ing attitude is eliminated. United has to play at 100% intensity to win. Everton and colchester were clear indicators that we have to improve. Sitting on our laurels after beating City is so ****ing sickening.
Special mentions for Lingard, Fred and Shaw who were particularly ****e. Lingard has stolen a career. On the upside I had Deeney to score at 7/2. He always scores against United.
Lingard particularly has gone backwards. He thinks hes already made the summit and has stopped improving. His selection of shot was pathetic. Why chip the goal keeper when running at speed when it was hundred times easier to pass the ball to the side of GK? He is one of the players that don't deserve to be in the squad. If the GGs and Woodward think they are going to get a competitive team on the cheap with Ole then they've got another think coming. They need to spend big on at least a top midfielder and a striker . What's worrying is the players constantly failing to raise themselves when playing against lower placed teams.
Pogba in for Lingard is a fairly straightforward swap. Shaw and Lindelof are two not up to scratch. We also need a centre forward and another CM. That's four players, plus the inevitable Pogba replacement.
We have been spending big for seven years, Christian. It has obviously not worked. We have been one of the league's top spenders since Sir Alex left and our wage bill is still incredibly high to reflect the expenditure paid to players that are constantly underperforming. While I agree that the current squad is mostly pants in the middle of the park and on the wings, with no real target striker to score half chances, simply throwing money out there is not going to solve the problem. We need to spend smartly on players that are eager to play for the club and grab every opportunity granted to them. The problem at the club is structural and it starts from the very top all the way down. This structural issue affects how we target players, interact with their agents, negotiate salaries (when most don't even deserve it) and motivate them to perform to get results.
It's not throwing money at it though is it? We clearly need these players, what else are we to do, get the magic wands out? We could save money at centre half by giving Tuanzebe a go instead of Lindelof. We could hope that Pogba is not lying and is genuinely committed, that saves us having to buy at CM? We'd still need a striker, left back and right wing though. Dan James was bought as a prospect, instead we've relied on him all season. He's now losing form, it's not on.
There's no doubt that we need players. But paying over the odds amount has proven not to be the right approach. This is where being creative with how we spend comes in. We spent over £120m on defenders few months ago but you wouldn't know it when you watch how we play. In fact, we've spent heavily on defenders over the past several years while sending players off that were starting to develop and with chance of breaking into the squad. We need to build solid midfield and almost got Fernandes for good value in the summer, but due to the structural problems that I've mentioned, we couldn't close the deal. Overall, I agree that there is no magic wand to fix the squad other than to spend. But we also know from our recent history that simply spending big has not solved our core problems. Consistently, don't trust Ed with transfer money.
Troubling to hear that Chong and Gomes might be open to a move away. I can see their point of view, not enough game time, but as the season unfolds and we (hopefully) make cup progress they will get their chance, but kids are so impatient these days - they want instant global success. Rumour here has it that Barca have guaranteed themselves a deal regarding Gomes.
The problems is, just how many do you throw into the first team? For me, next one who should be getting a game is Tuanzebe. (think I might have mentioned that once or twice!) Chong is just a haircut, never gonna be good enough. Gomes, looks a real prospect but is (very) small. Could well be the less consistently physical game in Spain is right up his street? Not sure he'll get a proper chance with us, we need to now buy finished products.
last season, but due to the **** I took for pointing out the ****ing obvious a few years ago I'm going to keep it up.
Tyson was the best boxer in the world until Buster Douglas beat him. Anyone who said he was **** before that probably felt vindicated. Sportsmen go through peaks and troughs.
