some are jailed fines are issued but not enough .. what if they say "unemployed/ on pension/ no money .. cant pay... then there is a formula to serve jail time for non payment .. no excuse not to go to jail then as not working and no money so get free board and lodge for 6 weeks and a record

Have you noticed the unbalanced adverts .. from about 9 months ago ... TV ones are getting even more unbalanced and ludicrous .. Barclays only seem to have one race of people doing their adverts especially online banking .. supposed to be representative.. well that would mean white british only make up 28% of the population!
Also read that hollywood movies now have to have a specific figure of characters representing the population... interesting! crime in USA is usually quite defined so are most of the baddies going to follow that?

    Spot on
Adverts are just cringeworthy these days, including the pretend mixed race family that is obviously the norm to the ad agencies, and I always run them on if I'm watching a recorded programme.
The worst part is that they do not represent our current society in any way, shape or form.

Also, for the past 15 years or more I have been completing online surveys. These could be for anything from dog food to politics, but in the last year or two, the companies running the surveys are far more interested in my gender (sex !), ethnicity, and more recently my carbon footprint and my climate change beliefs (or not in my case) than the actual questions I'm supposed to be answering for them !

I think they had to do a "routine inspection" and point out where things needed addressing but comment was made before end of the inspection?

    Harpoons are the answer maybe?
this wont post ...finally got it to!

Well just 1 more visit onto my roof forgot to remove an item and scaffold gets taken away shortly. it was put up for the facias and gutters at the back, so is not at gutter level which is usual for retiling...!!! so protecion against slipping down it means a 6ft fall onto it! To do tiles 80+ I had put up some temporary "protection" but took it all away now have a quick 15 ft walk across roof to do a 1 minute job! have not stopped doing things since june and so took a day off today to take XYL and grandson to CHEDDAR... they loved it .. I go there most week's!
HOWEVER the route taken ... after picking him up went down A38 AND WHAT A COSTLY MESS THAT HAS BECOME for road users! OK it is a bank holiday weekend so a small allowance maybe needed.
Barrow tanks junction that goes to Clevedon/ Portishead / long Ashton .. now has 2 x 150 m long "bus lanes" and 4 sets of traffic lights!!!
GOING [ 11am ] we met the back end of the traffic halfway between the garage and the lights between the reservoirs, took 20 + plus minutes to get to the airport round a bout then open road .. but busy! Traffic lights at Brockley turn seemed to be the pinch point [ end of / front of que!]
stop start the whole way from tanks to Airport.

On the return [ 5 pm ] met traffic just before Main AIRPORT roundabout traffic, so short que to Brockley lights BUT the start of the que to FIASCO at barrow tanks .. 20 + mins .. stop start and coming down hill able to observe how the 4 lots of lights worked well sort of ... in the 7 mins it took to travel from Winford junction TO LIGHTS we observed 1 taxi use [ or vehicle use bus lane! ] although all was stopped a number of times whilst that set of lights sat on green. Red for main traffic flow exeeded the amount of green, which seemed to allow about 12 vehicles through at a time!
Danger observed is the bus lane [ in the almost 20 mins or so total we observed it only 5 vehicles seen [ 1 heading toward Bristol TURNED LEFT before tanks !] 4 from Bristol 2 of which almost had collisions as when lights allow traffic to flow toward airport buslane taxi's are doing 50 ish MPH BECAUSE NO TRAFFIC STOP LIGHTS! .. instead of repairing all the potholes on all the roads for a radius of 10 miles they waste £m's on this fiasco of a road junction

There’s roadworks everywhere at the moment
Airport Road, from just after Cadogan Road nearly all the way to the Wills roundabout is down to one lane in both directions with temporary traffic lights, and I think the sign said it will run from 31st July until 2025 !! I only noticed the sign as I was passing it so I hope I’m wrong as once the sumner (ha ha!) holidays are over and people go back to work it’s likely to be gridlock

That debacle at the Barrow Tanks junction is just another waste of public money!

Traffic chaos in the area for at least 3 months for what? In my, and many other people’s, opinion, **** all!!

I really have no idea what they were aiming to achieve when public transport around North Somerset is ****e at the best of times!!

Sometimes I think they have to spend the yearly budget, so rather spend it on something useful it's easier to spend it on pointless projects.... Makes you wonder who makes these decisions and what sort of salary (backhanders) they're on..:emoticon-0105-wink:

I also see that the Clevedon sea-front **** up has now got worse!
The original budget was supposed to be around £200k; it’s gone over budget by more than a million!!!
I doubt that anyone will lose their job over that monumental waste of public money.

it really makes you feel sick, and very anti Liberal Democrat when a minority person in a minority party has to solely blame the tory party for the latest problem with schools. The party’s education spokesperson Munira Wilson says. .......

the closure of schools in England over safety concerns is the result of “years of Conservative neglect of our school buildings”.
"Parents, teachers and pupils will be horrified that children have been taught in unsafe buildings and cannot return to school next week, the party’s education spokesperson Munira Wilson says.

points grabbing by a person who doesnt do a lot! EDUCATION INDIVIDUAL WHO according to her record has never brought to attention anything to do with problem she is condemning the tories for .. bearing in mind the timescales of its use and a apparent lack of any events to its detriment regarding RAAC [ THE CONCRETE ] .. also in that time tories/ labour and liberals have all been in power at some point .. waiting for Labour to strike up now and follow the same path

after the news a couple of events came to light out of 500 odd installions.. main danger is via water ingress which degrades the quality/ strength of the product so leans toward poor maintenance on behalf the authority in charge of the school!

    RAAC concrete............
an ongoing problem inheritrd from the past... but likely to feature as a front runner for points gathering in the lead up to the next General Election... here is a starter....
    an axe to grind!! ......
The accusations made by Jonathan Slater, who ran the Department for Education for four years until being sacked in mid-2020, are very serious.
He said he had warned the Treasury there was “a critical risk to life” if it did not fund the repairs programme - but at a 2021 spending review, when Sunak was chancellor, the number of schools given money for repairs was halved...........
the halving of the "budget to some" not all schools is the key words here.

Again it could blamed on having to find £2.3bn to hotelize illegal immigrants [ BTW not the true cost, thats the current hotel bills, you can probably double that and more for "all" the costs ]

The Lib Dems say Prime Minister Rishi Sunak - who made that decision while Chancellor of the Exchequer - should explain his reasons in Parliament. [ not an unfair comment ]
The party wants to see the evidence from officials in the Department for Education about school safety which they accuse Sunak of ignoring. [ sometimes it is not easy to balance the books (economy) especially after £trns have been spent trying to keep us sane/ alive/and potentially still with jobs to go back to after an event like Covid and a drain like the illegals! ]

Mark Dickey, the latest caver to have have featured in an international rescue!
A comment was made to to me about this hobby, from someone that didnt know my history! ............

" I think it should be banned, [ caving/ potholing ] we have to pay to for them to be rescued and they affect, put the lives of others, emergency services etc in danger. How much would that lot have cost ? £100's of 000's it is criminal." Further comments regarding this country and the rescues we "have to fork out for in our taxes is totally uncalled for!"

They were extremely angry and the couple of people with them were being sucked in! I merely stated " I started this hobby 63 years ago, I have been on a number of rescues, in the UK and not been paid once, other than a few pints from the grateful rescued! The emergency services get involved only when they want to most of the time and usually on the surface. Cavers/potholers look after their own, for instance there is 5 major rescue groups in the UK .. ALL SELF FUNDED with an array of the most up to date equipment, it includes doctors and medical staff and all sorts of other trades. Regular training practices are carried out by individual clubs covering all sorts of scenario, when a rescue is needed there is no shortage of volunteers.................

Response was " I dont believe it doesnt cost the public money or even the whole cost of the rescue"

The other people in the que gradually drifted away as they continued to rant on about it ...

He is finally out and safe, it was not a failing of himself, Any one of us could suffer a similar illness just hope it is not over a mile underground!

20MPH in the areas where lamp posts are up to 183m apart and in excess of 3% of all existing roads going over to 20 mph....................... IN WALES!
SOME OF THE INFO given in support is rather dubious 1 minute on your journey really .. how long is piece of string ? .... cost saves NHS £92m, what is the cost well quotes are between £2.7bn and £8bn ... it will save up 10 lives a year [ how do they know that? ] deaths on the roads fluctuate so many times and ways how do they get that figure .. yes its good to save lives but reducing the speed by 10 mph??? just think of the poor people with breathing and chest infections etc that will now suffer higher pollution levels! One item I read some time back pre Bristol/ London ULEZ was that more people die on the roads from pollution issues than killed in accidents! School runs are around here often subject to speed camera's [ in 30 zones ] and must be same for Wales? [ close to school areas , 200m either direction? usually 20mph ] .. school run vehicles?....gas guzzlers!

is it the right thing to do?

The European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, has visited a migrant reception centre on the Italian island of Lampedusa, after the country's prime minister called for EU help with small boat arrivals.

More than 8,000 migrants have arrived on the island over the past three days.
PM Giorgia Meloni says Italy is being placed under "unsustainable pressure".
Ms von der Leyen acknowledged on Sunday that the issue was "a European challenge and needs a European answer".

WOW this is getting really silly now, soon the northern hemispere will be overloaded not only with migrants ...but also males who may have or not left female family members behind! Lampedusa is not a big Island it is about a fifth the size of the Isle of WIGHT. Normal population is around 6000 currently today with tourists and locals plus migrants it is around 20k+?

There were more migrants on the island than locals last week
I never knew this until recently, but when he was in power Colonel Gaddafi accepted repeated payments from Italy to keep people in Libya and out of Italy and it worked.

Things simply can’t continue like this, Europe and ourselves will eventually be totally overwhelmed by illegals from the Middle East, and North and West Africa if things are left unchecked.

The EU were warned in 2015 that they were making a stupendous mistake by accepting anyone from the Middle East or Africa that came to Europe by allowing them to stay regardless of who they were or where they were from.

If this is left unchecked it will destroy the EU in time, and the likes of Poland and Hungary have already said they will not accept any migrants at all in the share and share alike scheme being proposed so how's that for a joined up approach ? But at least they have governments with a bit of backbone.

This needs to be stopped, with force if necessary, in southern Europe

We don’t owe these illegals anything and nor does the EU. If it's not stopped in Southern Italy it will affect us here very soon.

Mobilise the armies and Navies of Italy, Greece, France, UK, Poland, Hungary and send them to the Med and push every single boat back.

Do that a few times and it will stop.
