Rosenqvist was such a lucky boy in that. Once he was airborne, I totally feared the worst. Thankfully the only casualty was his grundies.
There was a call for Pocono to be removed from the calendar by Wickens as he claimed that its not suitable for Indycars. I can understand his emotion on this, but the accidents are not unique to Pocono or its layout, that one started on a straight! The track is plenty wide enough and no more dangerous than any other superspeedway, lets face it anywhere that averages 200+mph is dangerous in its very essence. If that was the case, then all superspeedways also need to be removed, is that really going to happen!?
What blows my mind with this is Sato trying to blame Rossi and RHR for the incident and his team basically backing him up. He clearly makes a move to the left right before contact. In the post accident interviews Sato even says he though he was clear. Looks like he was attempting to slot through the gap and make a run on Dixon. It was a clumsy move by Sato that caused the utter chaos, not the track, and the fact that he's mudding the waters and looking to put the blame elsewhere makes my blood boil.
Certainly seems that way... He's well and truly living in the post-truth era. It's really pissed me off though... The sheer cheek of it. He posted a few crappy stills online, attempting to prove that he didn't move, and a load of people have taken it hook, line and sinker.. despite there being clear head on footage of him turning in to Rossi, clear footage from RHR onboard that shows him turning in to Rossi, and him admitting that he thought he was clear after the crash. It's bonkers.
Anybody planing to watch the last Indycar race of the season this weekend? Indy returns to Laguna Seca for the season finale, with 3 drivers (realistically... highly unlikely for Dixon) in with a chance of walking away with the title. Looking forward to this one. Think it's a roughly 8 p.m. start UK time, but will check.
