Jurgen Klopp explains reluctance to extend his contract as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is in no rush to discuss a new contract at Liverpool with three years left on his deal, but also refuses to confirm that he wants to stay at the club beyond 2022. The German manager is hugely popular on Merseyside after the Reds won the Champions League last season and finished second in the Premier League. Liverpool managed the highest points total in the club’s Premier League history and only narrowly missed out on their first Premier League to a rampant Manchester City side. Klopp’s future is secured for the next three years and he says that he is guaranteed to be at Anfield until then, but has no desire to tie himself to anything past that I will not leave before the contract is ending. That is my side. That is why a contract is important,’ said Klopp. We have enough time to make decisions in that department. There is no need to do it now. Three years is really a bit early to be concerned. It is just a contract. ‘The owners like what I do; I like what the owners are doing. I love the team, they are brilliant. Melwood is sensational. I’m looking forward to going to Kirkby [the new training ground] and all these things. There is always a step forward.’ The 52-year-old enjoys being a popular figure and hates the idea of outstaying his welcome at any club. He has not ruled out staying at Anfield beyond 2022, but he likes the idea of surveying the landscape closer to that time rather than signing away his future too early. ‘I don’t want ever to be in a situation where people are annoyed that I am still here. That’s the truth,’ continued Klopp. ‘You have that situation in football. It must always be a win-win situation. ‘At the moment, it is 100 per cent and we will see how long that will be. Whatever discussions came up … I saw a few headlines that I will finish for sure in three years, that I will sign a contract and all that stuff. ‘I have three years. It is all good. The age group of the boys is good, my age is good for what I have to do. It’s strange that we talk about it three years before.’ https://metro.co.uk/2019/07/18/jurg...e-extend-contract-liverpool-manager-10423918/
