I had Risotto for dinner. Agree, the wider grains of Arborio and Paella rice are much nicer than long grain. Although, Basmati rice makes a ****ing lovely stir fried rice.
I ****ing love squid. I can get it fresh from a mate's boat down here. Cut it up into thick strips, score the top diagonally and chuck it into a hot frying pan with some garlic. Serve it up with some salt and pepper, a wedge of lemon and a big chunk of crusty bread.
Going to Venice tomorrow, will take me about 2 hours on the train. The high speed only saves 30 mins, so not paying triple the price on this occasion, just to save that short time.
That's the problem with a lot of squid, it's just overcooked. It only really needs a flash in a hot pan.
Not keen on any plain rice particularly. It’s just bland ****e. Paella and risotto at least has flavour. Same as pasta it’s just ****e unless it’s stuffed with something. I hate spaghetti with a passion. Though I’d quite happily eat a carbonara.
I will eat anything but squid is just a no. I was put off in a London restaurant some years back....after that never touched the stuff since. I remember getting food poisoning one time from mussles, was years before i would touch them again.
Yeah, that's the only thing that is putting me off, the very touristy bit. Can you remember any decent restaurants where i won't get ripped off and the food is good?
Mussels you have to be careful with, they are filter feeders are prone to pollution. Also they go off, rule is when you steam them, if they don't open up fully, don't eat them. Squid is ****ing lovely mate. Maybe you just need to try some fresh stuff cooked up by a decent chef.
I use Basmati for a fried rice. Chuck in loads of garlic and ginger and a tablespoon of Bouillon, then add whatever you want, chicken, beef, peppers, mushrooms etc. Stir fry for about 20 mins. Easy meal and real tasty
It was pre-kids and my eldest is 13 so I’m surprised I remember going there at all. I do remember that a coffee in the main square was so expensive that I found it funny.
