Being retired we have the time to shop locally. We get almost all meat and veg from small local suppliers and some meat on-line. Its much better quality than the supermarkets and not much more expensive.

We never go in supermarket cafes and try local cafes over chains like Costa where we can, it's small behaviour changes that help.

    Me too
It would be a massive behaviour change if everyone did it

We're exactly the same - we'll go without rather than use a chain. We use local butcher, we used to have a brilliant bakery that closed due to lack of support; just the same as local pubs, use 'em or lose 'em!

I miss the wet fish shop on Newland Ave. We used it a lot, but not enough for them to keep going. Great variety of seasonal fish and seafood. The Red Snapper was gorgeous.

Why do they call them 'wet' fish shops? It's not as if there's a dry one to mix them up with is it? Shouldn't butchers be defined by moisture content too?

In fact, greengrocers should, because at least dried fruit is a thing.

I'd love to use high street independents more often. Problem is they tend to be open when I and most people are at work. Wouldn't they do better business opening, say 6pm to 10pm than 8am to 5pm.

Seems like business hours belong to a bygone age when the wife would go out to buy the daily groceries fresh every day.

I never buy anything from a garage except my diesel. Hate the way one local firm in particular sells everything under the sun and when you fill up your stood behind some ****er buying the weeks groceries and some other sad twat buying a selection of scratch cards at the till ( only ever one in operation too) Now they are charging to park on their forecourts. And its the dearest petrol/diesel in the area.

I’m pretending it’s over today by doing what I normally do on a sunny Sunday.

    Had late brunch

Now about to light to cigar and smoke it accompanied by a glass of Havana Club Anejo Especial

    cheers
