Another one of these ,said in conversation, things.... Interesting that Cally is vehemently saying that no way is Ramage is a racist... PC has taken over sadly in some areas whereas in others, anti-Islam, Pro-Zionism etc..... It continues unabated
I agree vehemently with your final point, yorkie, but Ramage’s comments, if left unpunished, would have continued the move towards racism (casual or otherwise) being another distasteful aspect of current British society seemingly acceptable.
Islam is about the way people think, not the colour of their skin. It should not be confused with nor afforded the same standards as racism else it becomes back-door blasphemy. Ditto Zionism. I'm all for the state of Israel but certainly not the current land grabbing policies. Political ideologies masquerading as religious righteousness. P****s me off every time I see an overly religious action - crossing themselves, kneeling, kissing the turf, etc. - and I accept that I do not have the right not to be offended by it. As for Ramage, he's shot himself in the foot in much the same was as Ron Atkinson did. Like Atkinson he has to go. Like Atkinson the comment does not make him a racist, it makes him ignorant of the current climate.
I guess the way he says "typical of black players" made it sound like he had an engrained thought in his head about it rather than just an off the cuff speaking without thinking moment.
I don't know what you are trying to prove here SH, he was talking about some of the young black players in the Derby side. This was direct slur on them, specifically referring to their colour.
He is being wrongly misquoted if he did not say 'typical of black players'. His mistake was solely to identify a couple of young players that in his view needed some extra discipline as 'black'. It is not a slur to insinuate they are not using the most of their talent. This is the PC world going into overdrive. It is quite usual in the real society to describe players as 'black' or 'asian'. My 'black' son in law much prefers to be called 'black' rather than 'coloured' or any other description.
please log in to view this image This is how people who are the subject of the comments you simply dismiss as PC actually feel SH. Do you think that is fair, and how you want England to be in the future?
Whatever he meant it was rather a silly thing to say on the radio. I don't believe his intention was to stereotype all young black players. He clearly lazily lumped a couple of young players together by using their colour. The guy above has taken his comments the wrong way. It is easy to be offended by something quite unintentional in today's snowflake world.
I think you are saying that you are quite happy to go round offending people either by thoughtlessness or design.
Fair enough I didn't quite quote him fully but it's sort of thinking that said in public won't go without getting into trouble. He might have got into bother for just saying youngsters in general are lazy - someone would be upset by that generalisation!
Being young is not inherent, being black is. It would just as bad if black pundit complained to a black presenter that young white players need to be brought down a peg or two.
