Everton have won the league 9 times, Villa 7 times plus have been European champions. Their current lowly status versus us is another reason to support ENIC.
i think he would be terrible. Lovely bloke and all but his record leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing going for him with you guys is that he is relatively young and spurs boy. Otherwise i see the following: 1. Was he that successful in the transfer market, i look at the squad he left Brighton and Norwich with and i don't think he left them in good shape 2. Was he a managerial success? I think he did well with Newcastle but was unjustly sacked, did okay with birmingham, think he did pretty poorly at norwich (good first season) and repeated the same with brighton, (promotion, did well to stabilise brighton then did poorly) 3. Is he tactically right? from what i remember he's a defensive first manager so again, thats not going for him for someone who has been treated to progressive passing and pressing tactics.
I like Chris Hughton and I think that he's been unfairly treated at times, but he's a Premier League survival/Championship promotion manager. He's also 61, so I don't think that his style of play or his overall results are going to change massively.
Yeah I wouldn’t want Hughton. Whilst I get the POV of people who don’t like Jose for historical and stylistic reasons, Hughton would be a lot, lot worse, despite the fact we all love the guy. I still think we need to give Jose his own team, or at least a core group of his own team. So far he’s only got Bergwijn who’s impressed for the most part and Gedson, who in fairness hasn’t but he does look to have something about him although I do wonder if we’ll make his deal permanent or not in 2021. For me, give Jose at least two of his own defenders and also a defensive midfielder before properly judging him a success or failure. Because despite the fact I thought we turned a corner based on the first two games, that defence as a collective (regardless of who plays) is just frighteningly bad and until playing personnel changes are made, no manager can make this work. Not even 2014-2018 Poch could do much with this ****e.
You failed to give Pochettino time and you are paying for it, if you give Jose Mourinho time, I am not sure what is going to happen. Jose Mourinho is too arrogant and likely to destroy your club. You need a manager who was probably ex player or a world class manager.
That was supposed to be happening now we started the cycle when Poch arrived however slowly but surely as the time arrived for us to hit our sweet spot as a club...baring in mind, the manager, the players and the fans were all doing their bit but one factor let us down...the owners, they didn’t do their bit...they got shy and choked when they were supposed to help us over the line by backing the manager #neverforget
The pandemic has given the club the perfect excuse in many ways You watch how other clubs will still spend despite it but Spurs will somehow be unable to
I think the club will spend. Jose said himself he expects signings and as many have said ever since the appointment, you don’t bring Jose Mourinho to your football club if you don’t intend to financially back him. As for how much though? Who knows. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to expect around £70m-£80m worth of incomings, that doesn’t have to be net either. That’s about £40m-£50m less than I would’ve expected the club to spend had COVID not happened.
I think I was at the pessimistic end of my views of our future for the next 5 years but I'm not optimistic at all. We are at a real crossroads. We've set ourselves up as a properly big club in world terms but Enic show no signs of playing in the same space as Wolves or Everton, let alone City, Chelsea, Inter, Dortmund. That dichotomy is a BIG problem for the club. Grubbing around for bargains isn't easy in those circumstances and wages are going to be an increasing issue for us. Mourinho wasn't a straight appointment as manager. He came in with Sacramento to add the modern football factor to Mourinho's 'special one' allure. I'd want the same alongside Chris Hughton but right now we need someone who can get the best out of what we've got by playing a flat back 4 (with better full backs than Aurier and with more pace than Davies), 3 in the middle (Lo Celso and 2 others) with a combative defensive player and Kane supported by Son, Bergwijn, Moura, Sessegnon (in rotation). Given our financial state, that's what the top end of what we we might be able to do, having paid to clear out the Mourinho disaster. Go back to basis. Get some spirit back in the dressing room and try to thrive within Enic's budgetary constraints. That's going to need someone to bring some immediate passion and love for the club because it's been missing for some time now. I fear that the season after next season marks a new dawn for us and I'm expecting some significant departures, so we've got a season to try to prepare for it. I'd still prefer Hassenhuttl or Potter...but they will cost proper money and we got Mourinho for nothing and Poch paid his own compensation to leave Southampton.
As for those dreaming of a Poch return why do you think he would want to work with Levy again? would you? I wouldn’t Only thing I can think is that with his inside info...he is aware of the possibility of the club being sold in the future...otherwise why on earth would he want to bother. Imagine doing a rebuild with Levy helping you...only a fool would bother
Let’s see the net spend total after the end of the next transfer window I’d be amazed if Spurs were in the top 4-5 of it. I say this because the names being linked so far are all mediocre or loans or freebies
Even with new owners I wouldn’t want Poch back, in fact I’d rather see Jose given a war chest than Poch back and I’ve always been and always been anti Jose. Poch was finished as a credible top manager for me the night he cried for making a final, to this day it makes me cringe and I don’t think he’s been the same since. The fact he still wears Spurs T-shirt’s when the club sacked him last year is also cringey too
Don’t really see the issue with that... His team reached the biggest club game in world football in the last minute having gone a season with zero signings. Before he came the only CL final Spurs would’ve been in would’ve been on FIFA or Football Manager. Being a young manager as well that must have meant a lot to him, I think as evidenced by recent interviews and the pic with his son, Poch has a lot of love for the club. I was in Amsterdam that night, not at the game unfortunately, but I saw a lot blokes get emotional too. Meant a lot to us fans, it’s just a huge shame we massively let ourselves down in the final.
Fans being emotional is fine, that semi final was epic and I was shouting and screaming when Lucas scored that goal but the manager shouldn’t be like that. You wouldn’t see Fergie, Zidane, Pep and other act like that. Plus the talk before the final about possibly leaving if they won it shouldn’t have been said publicly either imo.
Here's something which stands out about our PPG...and, no, I'm not talking about this season's figure, as that's the easy headline 2015/16: 1,84 2016/17: 2,26 2017/18: 2,03 2018/19: 1,87 2019/20: 1,40* How the hell did we average a better points return last season when our form was petering out in slow motion for half a season than in a season where we were pushing for the title? That honestly doesn't make sense at all
I don’t think there’s a set marker as to how a manager should or shouldn’t react though. Poch was probably just as much a fan as you and I that night. The man got emotional, really don’t see an issue and certainly don’t see it as a way to discredit him as a manager. I agree his comments were stupid though.
Everyone bar Leicester was rubbish that season, the points total was low, Arsenal finished 2nd with 71.
