The Chairboys return to Adams Park and welcome fellow promotion chasing Trotters who sit three points and four places above ourselves have won three of their last four but the one they didn't win was a a 1-3 home defeat by Carlisle. Matty may name an unchanged lineup again but has a whole bench chomping at the bit with names like Vokes, McCleary and Wheeler to name but three all looking for a start. I will not be at AP for this one but I will be watching on Wanderers TV looking forward to a good game and hoping we can continue our form and climb level on points with our visitors
Still just 3 points off the play-offs. We seem to be having more shots than the opposition lately. Apart from Portsmouth, who haven't lost a game, every single team has lost at least 3 games. Interesting that Portsmouth have only scored 2 more goals than us, having played 1 more. Only bottom of the table Cheltenham have conceded more than us (and that being just 2). Obvious where our biggest problem lies
I gave up watching at half-time, I take it we went after the 3rd goal & left ourselves wide open instead of settling for a point
My take on the game was… 1st half awful for some reason the defence kept by-passing the midfield with long balls up to Hanlan, who was in the defenders pocket. That was all we did the whole half. A few times Leahy played it on the floor up front which worked better but we still kept missing the midfield. Patterson had some joy going forward but seemed unsure what to do when in the box. Bolton weren’t much better, a mistake by Max and a long ball and we were 2 down. I was expecting changes at half time but none came. 2nd half what a difference, we pressed higher and caused problems immediately, this was facilitated by the defence being higher and on the ball playing through the midfield. Potts was getting on the ball and short passes were being played. It was high intensity and high press with small triangle passes and confidence on the ball. We scored early and in fact we’re all over them, the 2nd was only a matter of time. However with time running out we made loads of changes, therefore after the equaliser I don’t think anyone knew where they were playing. I was very unsure who was playing where, maybe Low at right back but it was a mess. It wasn’t so much we were ‘going for it’. It all happened so quickly we hadn’t time to settle. That being said we should have defended better on their corner. My take on the 4th was that it was a lucky headed through ball (could have gone anywhere) which landed in the one place Keogh couldn’t have got it. He was never going to catch their striker and was lucky to only get a yellow. Max was close to saving the pen, got 2 hands on it. Overall…. We won’t win many games with the 1st half performance, we will win most games with the 2nd half performance.
