Match Day Thread Wigan vs Pompey

Pompey travel to Wigan for the inaugural Paul Cook derby. Wigan sit top of the league having won all of their three league games so far while Pompey are 13th with one win, one draw and one loss.

Donohue gets his debut after joining Pompey last week while Thompson returns to the bench after coming back from his injury. The formation may be different but I have assumed we'll start with the same formation we have had every game thus far.

As usual I assume 4-4-2 for the opposition simply because I dont know their squad.

 

Former Pompey forward Noel Hunt sits on the bench for Wigan but no other former Pompey player lines up for their opponents today.

Cross by Wigan is hit skyward by Whatmough and May before Burgess eventually gets it out to Evans who plays it long but no one there.

 

Wigan with another attempted cross cut out by Pompey but Pitman gives the ball away allowing Wigan to regain posession.

 

Wayward pass by Powell goes streight to Pompey's keeper then a wayward pass by Whatmought gives Wigan the ball back with a throw.

 

Whatmough seeing a lot of the ball at the moment.

 

Donohue fouled by Wigan and reacts angrilly. The ref steps in to calm things down.

 

Pompey give the ball away but Burgess covers well and the ball is cleared. Wigan still in posession and they get it into the box and it's a goal.

Wigan 1 - 0 Pompey. Toney into an empty net. Express FM think it might have been offside.

 

Evans gives away posession. Wigan cross and Rose heads to McGee. Pompey clear long.

 

Whatmough gives the ball away, Wigan's cross blocked, Pompey regains posession but Donohue skies the ball. Lowe steals the ball and advance, Pompey try to attack and Wigan kick it out for a throw.

 

Evans cross easilly intercepted by Wigan. Another Pompey throw. Pompey trying to build through the midfield but lose the ball, Wigan counter-attack but it goes safely to McGee.

 

May plays the ball forward to Bennett who gets it tp Pitman, Pitman plays it into the box looking for Lowe but it's cut out, Wigan get it clear and out for a Pompey throw.

 

Wigan get the ball across the box and get the shot but saved by McGee.

 

May fouled and Pompey get a freekick in thier own half. Taken long, Pompey looking to attack, offside, Wigan freekick.

 

Long ball by Evans looking for Lowe was more hopeful than anything else.
