I quite liked Winchester as a player last year as I thought he looked quite composed and was always available. He was good at slowing counter attacks too. I think he will be a good player to have around this season and will come into his own now as a more senior player. He was captain at Forest Green so I hoping he is a positive character.

There must be more to this lad than we have seen so far He’s shown a few glimpses but has often looked poor and completely over awed Think he’s a real confidence player hopefully he feels at home now and can step up.

Think hes tidy personally. Again, loads willing to write him off before he kicked a ball given where he signed from. As a centre mid its also important to consider who you're playing with. Perhaps this season we'll have better players around him to get more from him too.

Is he a captain in the making at the SOL.
Could well be in my eyes, I was surprised Flanagan was given the arm band last night.

I was pleasantly surprised at Winchester and Neil playing full backs night, I know this will not be a permanent thing, but they far from disgraced themselves

Winchester will be an important player this year for us - IMO. Comfortable playing in a couple of positions, he should play plenty of games.

Captain?i wpuldnt even start him. Has shown minor fleeting glimpses of ability and been really poor rest of the time. (Would say in a comfortable 5/95 split).

Have hope for him but simply hasn’t been very good so far

From what I have seen he is an average league 1 player, he is a safe player and thats been the problem since we dropped into this awful league. He got slated when he 1st signed and I said give the lad a chance and judge at the end of the season, I done that and he just isnt good enough.

sorry like, but I must have been watching a different Winchester, cos I think he's a terrible player. I haven't seen anything at all in his play that would make me want him in the squad. He mostly went missing for large parts of the games he played in midfield, he had no fight in him at all, and didn't even show for throw-ins etc. How we suddenly think he's now a suitable RB stand-in beats me. I think this new found love-in for the lad will be very short lived, and I hope to God LJ doesn't put his faith in the 'winch'!

Seems to be doing alright at full back. I'd rather have him there than O'Nien, we need him further up the pitch.

Quality player imo, some of our fans can’t accept the fact that we signed him from Forest Green so he is instantly ****e. Everytime I’ve seen him play he’s looked decent, can pick a great pass as well. Big season for him.

What utter bollocks you speak. None of our proper fans wrote him off because of Forest Green. Most say they’ve seen fleeting glimpses of quality from him but not enough.

Completely stand by that. It was obvious in January we needed creativity and goals, and that isn’t something he was ever going to offer us. Seemed a very bizarre signing at the time, but now we have got rid of the likes of Leadbitter, Scowen, Power etc he will fit nicely in the side.

So he’s a quality player who can pick a pass which you’ve seen every time you’ve watched him play, but he’s also offering nothing more than Scowen who couldn’t pass or shoot?

youre a complete hypocrite. And completely full of it too.

You did t rate him at all. Probably because we got him from Forest Green!!

Having played in 365 games and scored a whopping 22 career goals and 30 assists then I would hazard a guess that no team signed Scowen for his shooting ability!

For comparison Winchester has 344 apps 26 career goals and 18 assists.

To me it looks like both were similar types of centre midfielder and so Winchester offered nothing that Scowen didn’t already do, verifying what @Pablo said initially - because we needed creativity more than 'just' another CM.
