    World Cup 2018
First of all. Lets hope for a great tournament, without violence taking center stage.
There are some decent Money Back offers on with various firms. Hills doing £5 free bet every time your team wins and £5 free bet every time your player scores (max £10 bet). Sky going money back if your team gets knocked out.
I’m on France to win and Timo Werner top scorer. Good luck all

Does that mean if you put a tenner on England to win the WC you get your tenner back when they get knocked out? That can't be right

Germany look vulnerable and disjointed to me and there are already rumblings of discontent amongst fans about (a) Löw not including Sané and (b) Özil and Gundogan posing for a photo with Erdogan - Gundogan was booed by German fans every time he touched the ball against Saudi Arabia. I think the spirit in this squad is not what it has been in previous tournaments, they are missing real leaders, battlers and characters such as Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Podolski. I think they will struggle this time around. Conversely the French look the real deal, have a great collective spirit and will to win and have any number of players on the pitch who will take responsibility.

I suspect this World Cup will take a while to get going with 32 teams many of which will be in defensive mode. Should warm up though once the group stage is done with. Mexico 100/1, impossible draw and likely to meet Brazil in the last 16 if they progress from their group. However they've always seem difficult to beat and their efforts at team bonding (8 of their squad partied with 30 escorts allegedly after their last friendly) struck a chord with me and I hope they do well. I will of course be hoping for something to cheer about with the fresh young England squad. The last few tournaments have been beyond terrible and this young bunch look decent though they lack a midfielder with a killer pass. I have never and won't ever place a bet on England as their price is ridiculous given their woeful tournament form. Good luck to England and I hope the Mexicans continue to enjoy the party.

Yes, but I can barely tell one player from the other. As one Chinese guy said to me years ago somewhere or other, "Problem I have with you white Westerners is, you all look the same to me" <laugh>
Looks like my first choice, Belgium, are not so well-fancied at 11/1, never mind, at least I can tell the difference!

Don't think so this time, Ste, Oddy's right, they are not a happy bunch this time. Booing the crap out of one of their best players does not auger well. Löw is worried, I am sure of that. I think their No.1 hope has to be Werner, his speed is electrifying.

Cant have Spain, they play with about 7 centre mids on the pitch, dont have enough quality attackers.

Would love to see Messi win it and while Argentina look a bit top heavy, if they can get the defence organised, Messi, Dybala, Higuain and Di Maria will take them far.

I think Brazil and France have the overall best starting 11s on paper but arguable whether either are any value at the prices, Ill probably choose between those two for my win bet, France squad is still very young and they are probably producing the most talent of any country in Europe in recent years.

The e/w betting is not that appealing with only 2 places but ill be having an interest on Uruguay 28/1, im not clued up on much of their midfield but Cavani and Suarez are two legit world class strikers, and Godin and Gimenez are two top centre backs, Bentancur looks a decent prospect as well at Juve. They have a weak group on paper but I think this team will be at its best when underdogs and able to play on the counter, hopefully in the knockout rounds. Will take Cavani 25/1 for top goalscorer.

Might have had some e/w on Denmark 125/1 with 4 places but not with 2.

It doesn't surprise me that France are producing top talent. The standard from 7yos up is amazing. They are taught technical skills from a very early age and they take the p out of us adults with their control and footwork. Some of the 11 and 12yos are pretty amazing. I know of some, just from our area, that have already been snapped up by Caen and Le Havre

<laugh> Yeah, well, you've forced me to say it, a lot of the black players I find difficult to figure out who's who from the camera distance. OK?

    France 1 - USA 1 Temporary hitch, I guess?

Small problem I have with Messi. He surely does not produce what he is fully capable of when he plays for Argentina? You certainly have gone a bit South American, Boris. I don't bet on football myself, but I guess I'll stick with these three, Belgium (can't change my mind now!), France, and Brazil. My dark horse, surprisingly to many I know, is England. I have no idea what Southgate's young team will do. They could shock a few, and they could, of course, bomb-out like they usually do, but maybe not this time? That's it. Belgium, France, Brazil. Dark horse: England. Please hold rotten eggs, tomatoes, old vegetables, till later please! :emoticon-0100-smile
