You have to consider the talent available, and you list a series of misfit managers to compare our current manager with. The football played by England under Southgate is a disgrace the fact that we got as far as we did says more about the opposition than the ability or lack of it shown by the manager. If that is good football then as I said earlier it would never have become the world game.

Meanwhile, over in Brazil (and in the Grauniad...) Richy is being hailed as the idol Brazilians deserve post-Bolsonaro

With any luck, we might be saying similar about Will Lankshear in a decade's time...

Here is a comment a comment from I assume and Englishman in Scotland and it can't be Kinghotspur and it's not me.

I am so tired of Southgate's favouritism. Mount over Foden? Really. Foden is the best player England have. Sterling keeps his place despite being poor, time and time again. Foden and Grealish should be starting instead of Mount and Sterling. They are technical and EXCITING! Also Gareth, it is okay to sub Kane off you know?

Eriksen had a more talented squad and needed a goal scored after a definite foul to beat Trinidad and Tobago.

I don't think Southgate sent them out to play like that tonight, why would he, they were great on Monday and he would have wanted more of the same tonight, but as I said in an earlier post the players that were so good on Monday Bellingham and Saka in particular were awful tonight thats not all his fault. You have the give the USA credit too they played very well and are a far better team than you want to give them credit for being.

I want Southgate to go after this tournament because he has had his time but he has given us some good times and he hasn't finished yet.

Sterling's been The Undroppable for at least four years

While Southgate's system is reliant on pace on both flanks, mainly as he routinely picks a central midfield with the pace and guile of a cement mixer, the insistence on playing Sterling regardless of form or fitness is a throwback to coaches of yore who'd mollycoddle an out of form/out of shape/literally injured Beckham or Rooney while also coincidentally refusing to blood anyone who could potentially be a gamechanger off the bench when members of the Millionaire's Club underperformed as per

Southgate's response to Monday's game was to complain about letting two goals in at the end. That shows the mindset of the man.He could have lauded his players for scoring 6 goals but no we let 2 in.

Why does every manager pick Kane when he's injured/not fit?
He never plays well under those circumstances, yet they keep doing it.

    Because he’s indispensable.
Except he isn’t when he’s injured and then when he’s unfit to play, he’ll be out for longer.
But many managers do the same thing with their best players. He’s the captain, main source of goals and the talisman so he places a heavy burden on his replacement and the team generally when he’s out.

Yet another occurrence of the curse of England playing group matches at a major tournament on ITV!

    Why not?

The world will ignore anything bad if it suits them and the money is right. By 2030 the sportswashing will have done its job for MBS and his cronies

The next World Cup is in USA so might as well keep up the poor selections and go for Saudi 2030

Mainly the optics, as having two out of three WCs in Middle Eastern oil baron states makes it look a little too blatant. Similar can be said for Kazakhstan's planned 2030 bid

It also has to be said that China are clearly making moves to host one, as they're planning bids for both 2030 and 2034, so if FIFA want to give the tournament to a sportswashing AFC nation they're obviously front of the queue

An "equality of outcome" regime means that Saudi on
paper should get an opportunity to be host nation, but given
Qatar is now then 2030 would be too soon for that locale.

I feel that India or a nation in SE Asia such as Thailand,
if interested, should at least be considered for "logistics"
analysis (optimal climate, minimal disruption to general
    global domestic seasons etc) .

It's really sad that nobody has made anything of the histroy Qatar made in this tournament

Earliest a host nation has ever been eliminated

...and it would've been 10-15 minutes earlier, if not for the ludicrous amounts of stoppage time that definitely isn't there because Fox Sports paid a lot to air the matches and demanded their money's worth
