I was saying the same to my dad yesterday Ste - quite remarkable really when you think about how cagey most teams are in their first group match - main aim is usually to avoid defeat. I must say though, full credit to all the teams so far as there has already been some quite breathtaking football played. Spain - Holland was obviously the highlight, but I also though Italy - England was a high quality encounter, especially when you factor in the conditions. Costa Rica's 2nd half against Uruguay was also very impressive.

Moment of the world cup so far has to be Van Persie's flying diving header to make it 1-1 against Spain - sublime.

Didn't it just fall into place for them like it always does though? Couple of good chances for Portugal, then a dodgy penalty for the Germans, then a dodgy red card and the rest is history. If Germany were England, Goetze would have got a yellow card for diving and he would have sent Müller off together with the Portuguese.

With no European side ever winning a WC hosted in South America, the locals are now starting to look the goods.
