World Cup: Team of the tournament

Everyone likes a good compilation and to put a team together! So what I want to know is who would be in your team of the tournament?

Below are my shortlists, though admittedly some of the players only managed a few games due to the sides they were in, however they impressed me:

Goalkeepers: Pickford (England), Lloris (France), Ochoa (Mexico), Uzoho (Nigeria), Cho (South Korea).

Defenders: Alderweireld (Belgium), Verthongen (Belgium), Meurnier (Belgium), Silva (Brazil), Mina (Colombia), Vida (Croatia), Trippier (England), Stones (England), Maguire (England), Varane (France), Hernandez (France), Yoshida (Japan), Fernandes (Russia), Granqist (Sweden), Gimenez (Uruguay), Godin (Uruguay).

Midfielders: De Bruyne (Belgium), Paulinho (Brazil), Coutinho (Brazil), Modric (Croatia), Kante (France), Pogba (France), Matuidi (France), Guardardo (Mexico), Samedov (Russia), Claesson (Sweden), Shaqiri (Switzerland), Torreira (Uruguay).

Forwards/Strikers: Hazard (Belgium), Lukaku (Belgium), Rebic (Croatia), Perisic (Croatia), Poulsen (Denmark), Kane (England), Griezmann (France), Mbappe (France), Inui (Japan), Lozano (Mexico), Ronaldo (Portugal), Cavani (Uruguay).

Between Pickford and Courtois for my GK.

Trippier's definately in but Kane faded a bit after Colombia.

 

Yeah can’t possibly put Kane in, started well but disappeared when most needed IMO. Hazard was brilliant in every game I thought.

 

I thought Croatia’s FBs were excellent as was Trippier. Hazard should be in and definitely KdB.

It’s too hard

Edit: I’ve swapped Lloris. Can’t have a keeper in that does what he did in a World Cup Final.

 

The midfield should mostly be called - ic. Apart from Kante.

I started with three at the back and then changed to four to mirror the two finalists. I wouldn’t have picked Vertonghen over Varane. I did have Alderweireld when I had a back three.

Tough job isn’t it?

I note you picked two right backs?

 

It's impossibly difficult once you start looking at it tbf. I mean, I had to leave out Hazard and de Bruyne.

Wanted to include both Trippier and Pavard. I think Pavard scored that wondergoal with his left? In which case he can play over there.

 

Outside his right wasn’t it? The hardest part for me was leaving out Rakitic ... still not comfortable with it now.

Leaving Trippier out was also tough; I really rated Croatia’s RB.

 

Vida was great. Who does he play for? So many great Croatian players. About time we bought another one!

 

For me:

Modric pogba De Bruyne
Mbappe Kane Hazard

Although Kane is only in there as I’m biased. Really there’s nothing to choose between the no. 9’s really. Don’t think anyone stood out massively.

Amazingly, Giroud won the World Cup without a single shot on target.

For me Ii would narrow the choice down to the players of France, Croatia and Belgium!!

None of the England players are remotely good enough.

LM: Perisic (Can Exchange places with Hazard if need be)

Back 5 as it is!

Defensive duo: Pogba and Kante
Attacking midfield: Perisic, Modric, Hazard
Attacker: Griezman!!
