Imagine a sane owner had bought us in 2011 and, after 7 years of improvement, we'd finished 6th and got into Europe where we meet the Scum in Baku. Would you travel with all the problems it entails and the expense involved? A hypothetical question but worth asking. I think the novelty would be the attraction whereas many of the Arses and Scum see it as a bit of a comedown...
QPR in a European final, chance of winning a proper trophy for the first time since 1967. Of course we would go. With a bit of moaning about the venue, naturally.
Always said I'd go to see the R's if we ever got into Europe but I think Baku is stretching things a bit too far. Reports that it is costing fans over £1000 to get to the game, not exactly a £29 Easy Jet deal is it?! Having said that I am sure I could find the cash in the unlikely event of QPR being in a European final.
I bet extinction rebellion, the Green Party and other environmental concernists are delighted that 2 teams from London and thousands of fans are flying half way round the world to watch a football game.
I’ve been to Baku in the early 90’s a flipping war broke out, got stuck there for a week with only borscht, potato salad to eat and vodka to drink, so not all bad. The locals were burning Armenians in the street outside the hotel. Racist Chelsea fans will fit right in
Off course, no brainer.....go overland what an adventure.... Mrs Tramore might not be that impressed!!!!
They’ve sent back a few thousand tickets as over priced travel & ticket prices, can’t say I blame them, think I would blow that journey out based where it is
There are so few Chelski and Arsenal fans going they could have held it at Luton and still only half filled the place. On our tipping league I have gone for a draw after 90 mins. because I just think they will punish us all by offering an extra 30 mins. of this fiasco. Baku is, actually, closer to India than it is to London. If Watford got to a final there I would not be going - partly for environmental reasons (I mean football also has a responsibility in this field), partly because the country has a human rights record similar to Saudi Arabia, and partly to take a poke at Eufa for having it in such a place.
Yes, its a short and inexpensive flight for me. A couple of mates went to the GP amd said it was great time
makes you wonder with the ''big one'' being held in Madrid did they expect two Spanish sides to contest the final
I would but what planet are these people on that organised it on? I’m not suggesting there was anything corrupt going on but there clearly was.
Read somewhere that the host city was selected 3 years ago......don't think anyone could have predicted an all English final at that time....
It doesn't actually make any difference who the finalists were Tramore. It would have been just as much of a travel nightmare for German or Spanish clubs. The fact is that Baku is no more European than Teheran is and has no history of football whatsoever - the national sports of the country are wrestling, and persecuting Armenians. The fact is they have a lousy human rights record and a dodgy government which wants to improve its image by high profile sports events - and, they have oil money, which is probably the factor which most impressed Eufa officials.
EUFA, FIFA, Formula One, the Olympics all worship the shrine of the Petrodollar, on this occasion two London clubs ended up on the menu. Human Rights? Yer havin' a laugh...
Been all around the world following England so following my club to Baku would be a dream......of course I would
