Adnan Januzaj gets a nod but Luke and JWP do not. Ordinarily we may bemoan our unfashionable status but at present that would not be at all justified. Maybe someone is trying to let the lad know just how much "England" appreciates him because I can't see any other justification. Mind you, this from the panel that last year nominated a grand total of zero female sportswomen so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.
Can't see why he's nominated to be honest. There are several other young footballers, including a couple of ours, who deserve it as much, but in reality it ought to be a young sportsman who has actually achieved something. Being promising isn't enough.
I concur. Our youngsters stake a better claim, but even then...they shouldn't be nominated. A good example of the type of achievement that should really be recognised with the award is last years winner. Britains youngest Gold medalist at the Paralympics, also setting a new world record, he was just 15. Now this isn't too much of an issue...so long as Januzaj doesn't win it.
He's only nominated so they can show some Man U highlights on the night to keep the overseas viewers happy. No way he deserves to win the thing.
Can someone give me a half-decent reason [besides unfashionable club] why JWP isn't a good candidate for Young Sports Personality..? The nipper has become the player spokesperson for the England U21s, and gave a free-kick masterclass on the FA website, which was actually mentioned on the Chelsea match commentary. You know what..? We need to get that lad's profile raised because he's the real young personality here. Not someone from ManU who has been around for 5 minutes.
Think JWP can raise his own profile...he can smell an interview from 5 miles away The point is why him, why Shaw, why Januzaj? Only because they wanted to include a footballer. Give it to a youngster who has overcome problems and/or has won a medal.
Well indeed, yes I agree. But if they are going to include a young footballer, why not have one that actually has a proven personality. I can just imagine Gary Lineker introducing him and him doing his speech using his Steven Gerrard impression.
